      Pros

      You know that feeling at other companies where you wonder what those numskulls up in management are thinking? How you know you could do your bosses job better than them? Or their bosses job? That doesn't happen here. I have utter confidence in our management. Everyone is smart. Decisions are rational and timely. Have a concern? Bring it up, and we'll all do our best to address it.

      Cons

      With a consciously flat hierarchy and collaborative decision process, it can sometimes be a little slow to get things done. But that beats blindly following a dictator, doesn't it?

      Pros

      First and foremost, we put out great products. Our products run businesses, and our Claims systems are critical in helping people in times of crisis. And we have a great time doing it! Decisions about how we develop software, who does what, and our schedules are mostly driven from the lowest level possible. This is the most egalitarian place I've ever worked, where everyone's opinions matter and senior managers don't make "because I said so" decisions. We have fun with each other, people are expected to do their jobs, and nobody looks over their shoulder to check up on them.

      Cons

      Because decision-making is bottom up, we spend a lot of time in emails and meetings doing communication, aligning different teams and direction. It's also a bit chaotic, and you have to get used to a bit uncertainty at all times.

      - Allowed to do what I am best at and to discuss alternatives to working on things that I am less skilled at doing - Strong career prospects in the industry, consulting, and at Guidewire - Never fail to admire the senior managers for their fairness, their competence, and hard work - I can count on them to do the right thing (even small things that I wasn't expecting) - I believe in what we do and what we offer is a fair and hardy product for the industry we serve; since we don't try to be everything to everyone, we achieve what we set out to do

      Cons

      - There aren't enough hours in the day to get done what need to get done, globally - Sometimes it feels like there is zero margin for error but there aren't a lot of mulligans for performance...
