Pros

Flexible time at work and people in general aren't up your ass. Also very bright people and cool technology.

Cons

Founders and current leadership have let any semblance of a 'culture' completely vanish. I find myself longing for the past and generally not motivated because I can tell those who have a vested interest and those who don't. I joined when this company had a startup vibe and now it feels corporate.

Pros

Very good work-life balance. Lots of good people doing good things. Intense focus on pleasing customers. Renewed focus on agile development processes.

Cons

Too much reliance on internal, proprietary technologies. A strong desire to reinvent the wheel. Too inwardly focused: very little looking around at the software development industry. Retention starting to be an issue.

Pros

Guidewire is probably the most reasonable place I have ever worked. Management is focused on delivering quality software to insurance companies, so software engineers are treated very well. The insurance industry is notoriously slow, which gives us the opportunity to make good choices and not cut corners. Guidewire is full of humble geniuses -- seriously, there's a lot of brain power behind the keyboards.

Cons

Most of the technology that Guidewire uses is developed in-house. Because of that, there are fewer opportunities to gain experience in technologies that other software companies expect when hiring. Also, Guidewire develops software for the insurance industry, which is extremely slow and behind in terms of technology.
