Pros

Great Mission. Caring co-workers. Close to where I live.

Cons

In my opinion there is poor leadership at the highest level. Leadership don't seem to possess the technical knowledge or execution skills to lead this struggling organization. Maintenance and IT are two examples of neglect; ask any staff about how poorly our computers and cell phones have worked/not worked in the past 4 years, ask any staff in Residential Services how poorly maintained facilities are. Poor communication, poor planning and even poorer execution is the pattern. Don't take my word for it. Decide for yourself; Middle managers and supervisors are blamed for mistakes made by those at the very top. I suspect that the Board hasn't got a clue how bad things are. Employees have no idea who they are and I'm sure the Board has no idea who employees are. Very high turnover at all levels of the organization. 100% turnover of all HR staff between 2021 and 2022, had 4 HR directors in the last 5 years. Chief Administrative Officer quite, Operations Manager left, 100% turnover in the IT department, 100% turnover of Service Directors in the past 3 years, program managers and supervisors leaving left and right. Some positions have been vacant for almost one year. Why is that? The worst is, leadership will say they want honest feedback, but the belief among many long term staff is that leadership often is defensive and reactive or simply don't care. Same credentials, same work, but staff of color continue to be paid the lowest, and have the least opportunity to fully participate in benefits afforded to employees.

Pros

Decent time off and holidays observed. Opportunity to get job experience in your chosen field. The pay is in the market range for the job position.

Cons

A clear disconnect between the executive team and the line crew that are actively filling out the mission work. There is a lack of consideration for individuals that don’t work first shift and therefore are out of sight and out of mind, as it is apparent in how policies and procedures are established. Additionally the work expected on the administrative staff lacks direction from a strong leader and the division of work duties are not clearly defined when a task is shared among different service areas. Additionally there is a lack of real development opportunities for admin staff. The work/life balance is not the greatest and there is no real recognition for the work that is completed.

Pros

-Flexible Schedule -Decent pay (if you're in admin) -Great coworkers

Cons

Keep in mind, my experience is based solely on my role in Admin, where employees are treated differently than Service Staff (social workers, nurses, etc.). While Admin is paid well (perhaps overpaid) for their work, Service Staff is given crumbs. I know this because ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION someone from accounting left a document on the printer with the hourly rates for the entire staff. There's a huge disconnect between Guild's mission of helping people and how it actually treats its employees. Employee mental health was largely disregarded when it came time to return to offices "post"-COVID. While the majority of us had, over a year and a half, learned that we could do our jobs just as well from home, there was a blanket policy of returning to the office. Not because it would boost morale to all be in the same space, not because the office was a better working environment than what we had adapted to, but because the organization had blown a ton of money renovating a new office space. Pre-COVID there was already dissonance between what employees wanted and what the bloated senior staff was going to do. On many occasions, to their credit, Guild sought employee feedback. But, in true Guild fashion, that feedback was disregarded because it didn't jive with what the Executive Team was going to do anyway. Before the current Executive Director (who needs to be called a CEO for some reason) was hired, the atmosphere was incredibly different. It had its faults, including a lack of transparency from senior staff. But the then-President treated her staff with respect. Since the current CEO took office, I have seen good employees who disagreed with her fired without cause and walked to their cars. I understand that is going to happen at some point in such a large organization but several times over the last 3-4 years? Come on. There were years when I truly enjoyed working for Guild. I know that the staff cares about the people they serve, and I believe that Service Staff works hard to fulfill the mission. I am not commenting on the work that they do in the community. But as a workplace environment...I encourage you to look elsewhere.
