Pros

Work from home friendly (for most teams), good people (co-workers), yearly bonus. Good work/life balance on some teams (but not all)

Cons

Corporate slop environment - revolving door of managers, endless cycle of constant reorgs and layoffs even during good years. Raises are minimual even with good performance - you'll need to change positions/teams to get any real wage increase.

Pros

I don't know how they do it but working at H&R Block is genuinely enjoyable and I've met so many great people there. You get a real solid understanding of individual tax returns but after that point growth is limited. Sets you up for being extremely strong in individual tax which can serve you better than starting out as a graduate accountant in public practice.

Cons

The pay isn't great. Even as an office manager the pay doesn't increase much and you depend on bonuses, which I feel don't compensate. If you were to go to any other public practice the pay would be much better and you would get more exposure to different areas of tax. With a caveat that public practice can be extremely stressful and toxic. H&R Block is the exception!

Pros

- Lots of flexibility, unlimited PTO, generous leave policy -Good bonuses - Great culture, they try to make it fun

Cons

- Lot of reorganization so don't get comfortable. There were people who had been there 15 plus years for no apparent reason - Very difficult to advance. - Not very diverse. They seemed to be actively rolling back any efforts towards diversity, especially at the middle/senior leader level. ex. There are very few people of color above the manager level
