Pros

- Strong product-market fit with a solid customer base. - Some incredibly smart, hardworking people. - Great benefits.

Cons

- New leadership has obvious bias against women. The executive team became 100% male after the new CEO started. Women are not respected or valued and do not have the same growth opportunity as male counterparts. - The strategic direction has become increasingly unclear under new leadership. The roadmap lacks clarity and feasibility, with little progress made over the past 6+ months due to constant changes in direction. Leadership appears more focused on biweekly offsites and fancy dinners than on defining and executing a cohesive and attainable strategy. - The company is painfully sales-led, often to its detriment. Sales is praised for mis-selling while CS and Product are left to pick up the pieces. Reps are not held accountable for deviating from standard pricing and packaging or mis-selling product capabilities. They have disproportionate influence over decisions outside of their expertise and aren't held accountable when those decisions end poorly. You can find similar feedback on this leadership team by looking at reviews from their previous company (Solarwinds). It's assumed that new leadership comes with change, but this level of disruption is a bad sign for HG's future.

Pros

HG possesses the finest technographic data in the business and boasts a dedicated team of individuals who are truly zealous about propelling the company to a prominent position within the industry.

Cons

I am writing to express my concern about the current state of HG. The recent announcement of the upcoming departure of our CRO, coupled with the CEO's lack of engagement with employees and her failure to articulate a clear product strategy, is creating a sense of uncertainty and anxiety among the team. I understand that the CEO is busy, but her absence is noticeable and demoralizing. She rarely communicates with employees outside of the executive team, and when she does, it is usually to deliver vague platitudes about the company's future. This lack of communication has created a vacuum of information, which has led to speculation and rumors. The CEO's repeated use of the phrase "product led organisation" is also a cause for concern. She has never bothered to define what this means or how it will be achieved. This lack of clarity suggests that the CEO does not have a clear vision for the company's future. I am concerned that HG is falling behind its competitors. We need a clear and concise product strategy that is communicated to all employees. We also need a CEO who is engaged with the team and who is willing to provide regular updates on the company's progress. I urge the CEO to address these concerns as soon as possible.

Dear Current Employee, I take all feedback very seriously and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. I am sorry that you have a negative opinion of my level of engagement with employees. I take pride in being CEO of a company that is honest, transparent, and communicative at all levels; therefore it is essential for me to address the points you raise. I agree there is more to do, but HG has made great strides toward becoming a product- led organization, increasing the packaging of our data into use cases either on the Platform or in prescribed data sets, solving specific customer needs. Starting this year, our priority objectives and the underlying KPIs have shifted towards emphasizing product progress, such that we have launched 5 ready-for-sale major product releases this year alone. However, being product-led is as much about the choices we make operationally. To further advance our journey, we are adding a GM/Chief Product Officer position on the executive team. This role will accelerate our ability to spread product knowledge throughout the organization, and many of the responsibilities of our CRO will be subsumed under the GM/CPO. Both the product evolution and the executive role changes have been well articulated throughout the company by myself and other HG leaders at our Town Halls, at other team meetings, and through email communications. We have a strong vision: to be the definitive authority in Technology Intelligence. Independent reports confirm us as the hands-down leader in our markets. Indeed, analyst firm GZ Consulting, reported ‘HG Insights began as a technographics vendor and evolved into a Technology Intelligence platform that supports market sizing, resource allocation, prospect targeting, and account prioritization’ (Aug 21, 2023). This is further validated by industry publication MarTech Edge, who state, ‘HG Insights has been hailed as the authority in Technology Intelligence’ (Aug 2, 2023). This corroborates and builds upon your sentiment of HG possessing ‘the finest technographic data in the business’ and I agree we could not have gotten to this position without our dedicated team. I should address your opinion about HG “falling behind its competitors.” Our people and products have enabled HG to achieve leader status in G2’s grids for Software Intelligence and Marketing Account Intelligence (Summer 2023, Fall 2023). This year G2 also named HG as a Momentum Leader in Sales Intelligence (Fall 2023). This shows we are not only keeping pace with other players in the market but in many cases, surpassing them. This is an important distinction to make because G2’s assessments are based on independent user reviews. Confirmation of HG’s continued growth also comes from Inc. Magazine with the company being named as one of ‘America’s Fastest Growing Companies’ two years in a row (2022, 2023). I am proud that our culture allows for respectful dialogue between our people at all levels and as CEO I welcome the opportunity to discuss your issues directly with you. Though we believe we have a world-class company, products, and culture, I’m sure you can help us improve it. Please contact me by any method – email, Slack, my cell phone, etc. I look forward to the conversation. Sincerely, Elizabeth Cholawsky, CEO
