Pros

Hach company is a leader in the field of water quality instrumentation. It has highly-integrated manufacturing capabilities encompassing everything from injection molding to circuit boards. The people are friendly, and everyone tries to do a good job. If you want to see "lean" manufacturing and business practices happening in the real world, look here.

Cons

Management is almost exclusively by spreadsheet. Under the guise of "continuous improvement", yearly goals are set so that nobody can actually meet them. Almost everyone gets a "C" on their review, and raises rarely top 3%. Investment in new product development had risen in recent years, but R&D spending is still no more than 6% of sales. Hach's corporate owner, multinational Danaher, is using the business as a cash cow to fund other acquisitions.

Pros

Strong management as witnessed by both Hach, and parent company Danaher growth. Intelligent, technically adept associates. Good product portfolio.

Cons

45-60 hour weeks common for exempt associates. Danaher Business Systems is the system by which Hach manages lean throughout the organization. However, sustained improvements are difficult due to constantly low resources.

Pros

good health benefits located close to the interstate restrooms are fairly clean new pavement in the parking lot where potential investors can see it

Cons

50-60 hour workweek, year round quality last, delivery dates first burnout is very common crying in restrooms or behind closed office doors is common unusually high employee turnover 1/3 of the company is scheduled to be replaced by the end of 2011 with overseas workers no employee training there is only one way of doing things, the heavily burdened administria way suppliers are treated poorly and paid slowly local recruiters won't do business with them so only out-of-state recruiters are used
