The definition of toxic workplace

Pros

Convenient location off the freeway. Some of the people you work with are nice. There is a glassblowing shop on premises, which is fun to watch.

Cons

Executive team/management drives a toxic culture from the top, down. Most members of the executive team are disgustingly arrogant. They act like they are more important and smarter than everyone, talk about people as if they are simpletons and treat you like you’re a moron. The only chance to be valued at the company is to devote your life to them (no work/life balance). Internal processes are a headache and consistently waste time; they use antiquated software, half-heartedly follow processes like six sigma and lean manufacturing and can’t make solid decisions because their data is either non-existent or unreliable. Naturally, turnover is very high and employee morale poor. It’s common for new hires to bail within a few weeks. Most employees leave after 1- 2 years and only a handful stay beyond 5 years. Almost everyone I interacted with hated working there and salaries aren’t nearly high enough to outweigh all the cons.

Thank you for sharing! As you may or may not be aware, our Human Resources department has really come to light starting at the beginning of 2020 with a new HR Manager and HR Generalist. As we have been building a strong structured department where the sole purpose is to help build and enrich our culture, it has provided us the opportunity to really examine where Hammerton can improve. In 2020 and throughout this year, our focus has been on the main processes and procedures that were indeed missing in the employee lifecycle. For example, we switched to a streamlined and more efficient HRIS system, restructured and improved our health care benefits, developed a robust on-boarding and off-boarding process, examined our compensation philosophy, created more in-depth career paths for all of our employees, started a leadership training program, and focused heavily on the health and safety of our employees -- especially as the unforeseen pandemic hit. In reference to the COVID-19 pandemic, we communicated continuously through regular stand-up meetings and emails, we set up hand sanitizer stations and took daily temperature readings, displayed COVID safety signage throughout our facility, and created a large ‘COVID News’ bulletin board that was constantly updated. We also mandated masks for everyone who came on to our property. We still communicate updates as necessary. Although we have made some great strides to building an even better company, we recognize that we can always keep improving. This is where you can help! Below is a link that has been recently sent out to all of our previous employees. If you are willing, we would love to hear more from you! We appreciate all the feedback we can get as to help us evaluate if we are on the right track in our improvements. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CPKD9YW Sincerely, Stephanie Clausen HR Manager

Pros

Beautiful handcrafted products, amazing people, creative aspect to the job.

Cons

Where do I start, horrible pay, CEO yelling and constantly dropping the F-bomb, CEO and management creating negative atmosphere and pitting teams against each other, the most negative company I have ever worked for.

Culture and management are terrible

Pros

Craftsmanship and design of product is fabulous. Truly is a work of art. Employees other than management and inside sales reps are great people to work with.

Cons

Culture!!! They do not recognize the value of good employees until it is too late. High turnover in sales staff because of compensation and terrible culture. There is so much back biting, verbal abuse and poor business practices in the sales organization I dreaded going into the office.
