Pros

This is a consultative sale and I've learned so much about so many different industries as I've explored how Hanover's capabilities can support potential clients' growth strategies. Intellectually stimulating and engaging! I've had very good managers at Hanover who've made me better. The company has also been understanding and accommodating of other priorities I have outside of Hanover, including family. I've also found the compensation generous.

Cons

The company has doubled since I've been here. As we've done so, we've matured in terms of the value we deliver to clients - both from a product and service standpoint. We've also matured internally and are doing a better job stewarding our talent.

Pros

I've been at Hanover for over three years, staring as an associate and working my way up to the Director level. While sales has its ups and downs, I appreciate the consistent and genuine support I have received and cannot complain about the compensation either! I've worked with 5+ managers during my time at Hanover and they have all encouraged me to think outside of the box and try new ideas, listened to my frustrations and helped me figure out my long term place in the company. I was not initially interested in a career in sales, but was encouraged to try out the position and have now been a Director for a year and a half. I love hearing the positive feedback our clients share about our research and seeing past clients return to Hanover. It is definitely a testament to the quality of the business and keeps me motivated. I've also been given the opportunity to travel to some great cities and the responsibility to take ownership over my territory and strategy.

Cons

I think negative energy can be contagious and people sometimes forget that working at Hanover is still a job and very few jobs are fun and glamorous all the time. There are parts of my job that I love (travel, meeting with clients, learning about the industry), but there are also the more mundane tasks that I don't always love but have still had a huge impact on my success. Hanover has a lot of new college grads and I think it is easy to get hung up on the less fun parts of the job and forget the first part of the "work hard, play hard" mentality. It's important to remember that to be successful, but more importantly truly feel accomplished, you will have to push through challenges along the way. Additionally, there are times that I wish management was a bit more transparent into the business, but that is something that I've seen start to change across the past few months and I've appreciated the chance to better understand the ins and outs behind the scenes.

Pros

Hanover does have some good qualities. It is a good place to start as a newcomer right out of college. The Development team is young, fun to be around, and a smart group of individuals. There's free coffee and snacks, sometimes bagels and free lunches dependent on quarterly performance. I learned a lot of good soft sales skills during my tenure at Hanover. My co-workers are why I stayed for as long as I did.

Cons

There's lot of cons about Hanover though. Hanover will say they invest in your professional development and that there is upward mobility, this is true to "some" extent. I say "some" extent because it is all based on quantitative results for this position. You can be the hardest worker, but if your numbers aren't there (which is out of your control due to many factors) to be frank they don't care about you. There's lot's of favoritism, and certain managers should not be in a managing position as they have no clue how to lead. During my time there lots of incentives were taken away from the sales team and most of the people on the sales team felt there was no real leadership. If you're not hitting goal for that week, or even that month they will ride you to death. I would often work 12hr days just to stay afloat. In my time at Hanover (less than a year) I saw over 8 associates leave and 4 directors. Beware of working for Hanover on the sales/biz dev team it is truly a revolving door.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Sales roles at all companies are metrics driven. New hires are given the same training and ramp up time and then are expected to start working towards achieving their targets - either meeting volume or revenue targets. Success and promotions in these roles are also determined by consistently meeting those targets. As for the snacks, staff vote on these each month so if they want different snacks, they can petition for them and have them added.
