Pros

Everyone is friendly, smart, and hard working. Sometimes people can be transparent to what in other companies might normally be considered a fault. I haven't met anyone yet who I've questioned "Why was this person hired?". Smart, hard work is appreciated over "doing the hours", and providing something concrete and useful is appreciated over providing your weekly TPS reports. Speaking of which, if something is useless, it gets cut very quickly. I've never seen an organization that self evaluates and trims things as effectively as my current team.

Cons

Just like being in a family, sometimes mom and dad can't agree on what the family should be doing. This isn't usually a huge problem, but it frequently means the 'kids' are overridden when it comes to prioritizing 'fixing annoying bugs' over 'Providing more, new content'

Thanks for sharing this feedback, and your 'family' analogy resonates. I agree also with your assessment that foundational stability, in our data platform and in our apps, is table stakes before we'll be in a position to offer up more to our clients. I was visiting with Dale (our Technology President) yesterday, and he shared that the stability scalability of our data platform is on his short-list of organization priorities for the next year, and I completely agree. Thanks also for your continued contributions from Columbus! We have been so fortunate to continue to benefit from our talented colleagues who joined us through the HCD acquisition.

Pros

People - I'm amazed at the quality of coworkers I have. My team has a wide variety of perspectives and backgrounds but we enjoy working and playing together. Manager - I've had two managers in my life that I really admire and enjoyed working with. I'm currently working with the second of those two individuals. Makes it great to come to work to know my manager is smart, hardworking, trusts me and encourages a good work/life balance. Company - develops products and services that make a DIFFERENCE. I enjoy talking to anyone who will listen about how HealthCatalyst helps to save lives and improve healthcare. Culture - Management leads by example, encourages constant improvement in our workflact and promotes focus on client outcomes. I get the feeling that upper- and mid-management really care about the employees here.

Cons

Disjointed? - The size and variety of teams can lead to siloing and a feeling that we don't know what the "big picture" is. I came from a really great (but small) company and it is harder here to reach out and get to know and understand what other people are doing. Rushed - Sometimes it seems like a product being developed is delivered without "ease of use" enhancements or having all the features that would really make it shine. This was my experience with my last employer, so it may be a common symptom in software development.

Thank you for sharing your experience here on Glassdoor. I'm encouraged by the positives that you shared, and I appreciated your feedback on areas where we can improve. Regarding cross-functional visibility to the big-picture and to other areas of the company, we'll try to provide more of these kinds of venues. One great venue is our Healthcare Analytics Summit, where there's a product demo available for every product line, and we record many of the sessions, both keynote and breakout sessions, for team members to access afterwards, if you're not able to attend HAS. Also, we're going to try to get better at sharing, in every ATM meeting, a product demo as well as an outcomes improvement vignette, to help every team member have visibility to these things. Regarding "ease of use" of our products, this is also a real area of focus for us moving forward. I was visiting yesterday with Andrew Frueh (our Director of User Experience in the Tech organization) and was really excited to hear that they have proactively organized usability testing for essentially every product line to occur in conjunction with our Healthcare Analytics Summit in two weeks. This will be really helpful, and hopefully something that we make a permanent part of that annual event. Andrew and his team are really gifted and I'm excited to see their influence positively impact the usability of our software. Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to Health Catalyst. I'm grateful to have you as a colleague!

Amazing Company to Work For

Pros

I have been with Health Catalyst for almost 2 months and it truly is the most amazing company I have worked for in my 20+ year career. They encourage every single employee to feel that they are an equal owner in the company. The interview process can take a while, but they really take their time hiring the right people from a culture standpoint. The qualities they look for are smart, hard-working and humble. Compensation and bonus program is generous. The benefits are unmatched, my opinions and I ideas are always received and responded to, and I have yet to come across a fellow employee who is anything but kind and respectful. They truly believe family is #1 and encourage everyone to have that balance. It's not just something they put on their website. I really feel I hit the jackpot. This really is the most amazing company I have ever worked for.

Cons

Lots of meetings - some not as productive as others. This con can also be a pro, as these meetings really do help bring remote employees together often through the day - which is so valuable. So - I'll check back in a year with any "real" cons.

Thank you for sharing this review, and I'm encouraged to hear that the first few months have been positive for you. Work-life balance really does matter, and we are working hard to improve in this area -- and I believe we need to improve here. I see evidence of team members being significantly stretched, and while we appreciate the commitment to the company, we recognize the importance of the pace being sustainable. We'll keep a focus here. Also, I recognize that we do have a lot of meetings -- and I am the source of several of those meetings. I require our leadership team to meet every week for 3-4 hours, and then we meet every week on Monday evenings for a report-out with the ELT, and then we hold ATM meetings every other week with everyone. There is downside to every strategy, and that applies to us. But the upside, to me, of the time spent in these settings is that it allows for significant transparency of communication, it enables a great deal of two-way dialogue, which then drives towards alignment and commitment. But we have to keep things in balance, so as not to contribute to other challenges, including to work-life balance. So we'll keep an eye on this as well. And, finally, I appreciate your advice, and feel long-term committed to keep the team members and their experience as my #1 long-term priority as CEO, and our leadership team feels the same way. Thank you for joining Health Catalyst and for choosing to contribute to the company's mission every day!
