Pros

-Mission- and value-driven, and leadership follows the mission and values, driving the rest of the organization to do the same. -Excellent workplace flexibility. I'm able to set my own schedule, as long as I'm meeting deadlines and attending meetings. In addition, I have complete flexibility to work from home. -Top-notch team members at the top of their game. This makes work feel less like...work...and as an added benefit, you learn a lot from your colleagues. -Leadership accepts and listens to feedback from team members, and they act on that feedback, resulting in continual improvements. -Affinity groups (LGBTQ, Women Empowered, etc.) create excellent opportunities to meet people outside of your working "circle." Not only does this provide networking opportunities, but also opportunities to make friends at work.

Cons

Alignment between Technology and Services organizations could be stronger. Right now, it requires team member effort to work across the two organizations (and I've found pockets of meaningful collaboration), rather than organizational alignment integrated into processes. With everyone as busy as they are, if it's not expected/part of the culture, it can be challenging to drive that alignment and collaboration.

Thank you for this thoughtful review, and for your 4 years of service at Health Catalyst! I appreciate the positives that you shared, and hope we will live up to the specific comment about being responsive to team member feedback and then working to continuously improve. I also miss doing more of the small group lunches as well. I've migrated a little more towards more skip-level 1:1s and then more "town hall" discussions, particularly with offices outside Salt Lake. To that end, I love holding skip-level 1:1s, and have not yet reached my goal of 200 for 2019. If you'd be open to it, let's set up a 1:1 -- Jenn Howard can help us find a time, and it would be great to visit with you. Alternatively, Linda Llewelyn, our Chief People Officer, is holding these smaller group sessions and it would be great to have you join one of those as well. I believe the invites are sent out and then the first team members to sign up are accepted until we're full. Thank you again for your feedback, also regarding the need for further integration and collaboration between technology and services. I also see increases in collaboration, while also seeing further need for focus. We're working on this! Thank you again for contributing to the company's success these past four years! Best, Dan

Pros

I love working at Health Catalyst! I feel that we are doing meaningful work and that, in a lot of ways, we are changing the healthcare industry. The one greatest motivator for me is that HC is able to hire and assign managers that genuinely care about us as team members and about our clients and about helping them to achieve their goals. As long as that continues, I believe our success will continue.

Cons

About the only con I see is that we are not doing as much "ignite outcomes improvement" work as we would like. I know we have the talent and other resources to do it, but in some instances, our clients default to the most urgent -- not necessarily the most important -- projects, such as work on compulsory reporting projects (quality measures, etc.), rather than work on pure improvement projects. To the extent we can help our clients catch the vision of how we can help them in these projects, we will really solidify our strong relationships with them.

Thank you for sharing this review, and I'm so happy to hear that you have had such a positive experience with your manager. As I have studied the data on the drivers of team member engagement, it is clear to me that a team member's positive experience with their manager is central to enabling very high engagement levels. We will continue to focus in this area. I also appreciate your feedback regarding the central importance of keeping our improvement-focused mission at the center of everything we do. We are working to find ways to consistently accelerate this focus at each client, and I acknowledge the challenges we face where clients often have other needs that are pressing that, in order to be a great partner to them, we often need to help with. So it is a balancing act, to be sure. And finally, thank you for more than three years contributing to the mission of the company, in such a critical role, as an analytics engineer. You are the face of Health Catalyst in important ways, with our clients. Thank you for representing us and for being so committed to our mission! Best, Dan

Pros

Understanding and family oriented culture. Very transparent company with an excellent CEO in Dan Burton. Dan is very open and willing to talk to anyone about anything and truly portrays that he cares and wants to make sure people are taken care of. Company goes above and beyond in my experience to make sure every employee is treated fairly. From my view the work/life balance is a very important thing to management and they make sure that people are taken care of if work starts taking over the life aspect. People Operations Team is outstanding and they do great things continually for the employees. Excellent Health Benefits, PTO. Holidays, 401k Matching and flextime to mention a few of the things that are incredible. Company is serious about paying people what they are worth and continually give attention to the area of compensation to make sure they are more than fair. Excited to see what the future holds and continuing to work hard to see changes continue to happen for the better.

Cons

Sometimes there can be a lack of direction on things that need to be done that can make it difficult because of back and forth on decisions. There is a lot of work to do and people are very busy. So much so that it can be hard to get a meeting with key people to make the final decisions to move forward. So times there can be decisions made to move things forward that could be stopped when a fellow teammate and asks why the wheel is being re-created. Direct and decisive communication is not a strength in many areas which can be frustrating at times. Seems like there are many people that have many responsibilities that are spread very thin over many things that need to be done.

Thank you for your detailed review and feedback, and thank you for your kind words -- I appreciate it. I'm glad to hear of all the positives you've experienced while working at Health Catalyst, including the compensation, benefits, people operations, and work life balance. These are certainly areas of focus for us, so I'm grateful to hear that these have been positive aspects of your experience at Health Catalyst. I also appreciate your feedback regarding decision making, communication and utilizing a bottoms-up process for prioritizing company initiatives. I agree strongly that we should be deeply informed by team members who are closest to the work of building our technology and then using that technology to help clients improve, in prioritizing initiatives at Health Catalyst. I know this was a central input in choosing the "tier 1" initiatives that Paul, our COO, has shared with all team members. We can always do better, however, so we'll review ways to proactively solicit that feedback from the front lines as we think about prioritized initiatives, particularly as we prepare for 2020 planning. We'll also keep working to improve our communication at each level of the company. I view communication as a central part of an effective manager's role, and as such we need to provide robust training and a system to help those managers be really effective. We'll keep working on this. Thank you again for your feedback and for your contributions to the company this past year! Best, Dan
