Pros

I have almost always felt like the company has erred on the side of doing what is best for me. Each team I have worked with has had the autonomy to largely do things the way we thought was best. I don't speak with Dan face-to-face often - but when I do I always walk away feeling grateful he is at the helm. I believe 100% he puts team members (employees) first. I have never felt micromanaged. I feel trusted.

Cons

Implementation of new technologies feels very slow. The time between development and when a user actually has the product in front of them also feels very long. This can be discouraging.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with me, and thank you for your kind words. I'm heartened to hear that our interactions have been positive and that you sense a strong commitment to team members. That is absolutely how I feel. I also appreciate your perspective regarding the implementation of our technology feeling slow and long -- that this can be discouraging. I hope that we can tighten this timeline in the near future, and this time-to-value benefit will be a significant focus for us as we think about our R&D investments going into the 2020 planning cycle. We've come a long way in this regard, but there is still much room for improvement. Finally, thank you for the >5 years you've spent contributing to our company's success. I'm confident that you've added deep and significant value during your tenure, and for that I express to you my deep appreciation and gratitude. And I hope Health Catalyst will prove to be so hard to leave that you'll choose to continue to stay for the next 5+ years! Best, Dan

Pros

Health Catalyst is a great company to work for! They value their employees and listen to what they have to say. They offer benefits few other companies do these days.

Cons

I am concerned they will not listen to employees the same way or offer the benefits they do as they continue to grow.

Thank you for sharing this review, and for your work at Health Catalyst over the past 3+ years. I feel so grateful for our IT systems analysts and the important work and support that they provide to us in support of the overall mission and success of the company. Thank you also for sharing the positives of your experience and I'm grateful you've felt listened to and that you've found the benefits to be positive. I also understand your concern about what might change as the company grows and scales. These are valid concerns, especially in the context of what has happened with many other companies as they've experienced similar growth. We as a leadership team have tried to be proactive and thoughtful in putting in place practices and emphasizing principles that we are committed to following over the long-term, to enable us to continue to keep team members as our #1 priority. These include continuing the practice of our all-team-member meetings every two weeks, and also include my personal responses to every Glassdoor review and every "ask leadership anything" questions, as well as our use of Gallup every six months to survey every team member regarding their experience at Health Catalyst. Today we'll review together the latest Gallup results measuring team member engagement and satisfaction (spoiler alert -- excited to see 98th percentile satisfaction and highest-ever engagement ratio!!). I have read and reread every comment from those surveys, and we as a leadership team review and categorize and discuss ways to change and improve based on this feedback. You have my personal commitment to continue to place team member engagement as my #1 priority. Thank you again for your many contributions to our company's success these past 3+ years! Best, Dan

Pros

Health Catalyst is a mission driven company that is focused on eliminating clinical, operational, and financial waste. It really is focused on customer success and using data to improve how health care is delivered. There isn't a leader in the health care space that I'm aware of who is as smart, compassionate, and fair as Dan Burton. He's amazing. I can't say enough good about Dan. Dan surrounded himself with to minded leaders and that's one of the reasons why the company is so successful. The benefits and company holidays are excellent. There are so many company holidays, that I feel guilty about all of the time off. As a client facing employee, it's rare that I get to take full advantage of all of the company holidays, but I've been known to listen in to company meetings while I'm exercising or traveling. There's flexibility to work where and when it makes sense for personal and professional calendars. The onsite exercise facility, healthy snacks and an active culture make it easier to make healthy life choices.

Cons

Health Catalyst is still has a bit of the old boys culture. It seems that if you're not in with the right crowd, that you're overlooked for growth opportunities. It's harder for women to hold leadership positions, but it's getting better.

Thank you for this insightful feedback, and thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it. Thank you also for more than five years of contributing to the mission of the company, and in such an important role interfacing directly with our clients. I'm glad to hear you feel connected to the mission, as do I, and that you appreciate the benefits, including the holidays. And no problem at all listening to our all-team-member meetings while exercising--what a great idea, and that's why we record these, to provide you with flexibility given your many demands. I appreciate also your feedback about some improvement opportunities regarding your sense of some remaining vestiges of the "old boys culture" as you described it, and your related observation that it's harder for women to hold leadership positions, but your sense that it's getting better. I am certainly strongly committed to the principle of respect for every team member, and strongly desirous for every team member at Health Catalyst to feel they have a bright career path at every level, including importantly at the leadership level. I'm also encouraged to see progress in updated policies that are enabling us to be more consistent in posting positions, in utilizing an interview team when considering candidates, which contributes to better, more informed decisions on promotions and new opportunities. And I believe we are already seeing meaningful and positive results from these positive changes. We'll keep a consistent focus here to ensure we continue to make meaningful progress and keep our promise to enable every team member to have a consistently bright future and career path. I also appreciate your advice regarding keeping team members as our first priority. You have my personal commitment to do this -- I often share with others I meet with, including current and potential investors, that team member engagement is my #1 long-term priority, followed by customers, and then investors, with the rationale that when team members feel cared for and listened to and respected at an extraordinary level, they in turn produce outstanding work and treat our clients in the same way, and then those clients choose to renew and expand with us, which produces strong business performance for investors. As long as I am in this role, this will be the prioritization that I follow. Thank you again for your many years of contributions to our company and its mission. I'm grateful to be your colleague. Best, Dan
