Pros

Helping people with disabilities is rewarding. The families are usually kind and grateful that you are there to help them.

Cons

You will be absolutely run ragged, with little pay to show for it. Having a higher education will not increase pay; you will not be paid what you are worth. You will be thrown into the job with barely any training. You have to use your own vehicle; there is not a company vehicle provided to transport clients. If you call in sick, your client will typically not have coverage, so they just won't get any help that day. The system for logging hours is redundant and convoluted. The in-service educational meetings are a joke; nobody learns anything, and everyone is just there to gab and eat lunch.

Pros

You get to basically make your schedule. So if you’re a college student like me this type of position is good for you.

Cons

You have to go to mandatory training which they call “in service” one every three months for 4 hours. The training is paid for but very boring you basically have to go over what you’re allowed to do and what you’re not allowed to do. If they catch you on your phone you have to go home and go to another training all over again. The training kinda feels like gramma school , you basically have to listen to the instructor lecture the entire time, they allow you to get a 30 min break. The rest of the time spent is you being lectured.

Pros

Union, some friendly clients, choose your own hours.

Cons

Have to work everyday in order to be full time, they push clients onto you that you may not feel comfortable working with, poor pay, unorganized schedulers, some horrible clients.
