Pros

In theory, this company is solving a huge need. They will sell you that they are mission driven, but don't be fooled. They are margin driven, and they are conducting business like every other slimy, money hungry business out there. But what is worse, is they pretend to me mission driven and altruistic, when the mission is actually used to manipulate and guilt employees into thinking they should be worked to the bone and treated like crap in order to "change the world." The leaders at this company do not care about their employees. They care about making money and making smart business moves. The sooner they own that, the better.

Cons

Poor treatment of Care Professionals: Honor claims to want to treat their Care Professionals better than anywhere else so that they in turn provide the best possible care for their clients. They do not. They get paid less than at their other agencies, and they get less support from the company than if they were working for a smaller agency, because they are essentially dealing with the call center as their employer. An overworked, under appreciated call center. Poor treatment of internal employees: As mentioned above, they will manipulate you into blurring your boundaries on what is acceptable workplace treatment and culture in order to "change the world." Doing the same thing and expecting a different result is insanity. Treating your employees like machines, not being aware enough to realize you are using your mission to justify bad behavior and treatment, and then expecting to make real, lasting, positive change in the world doesn't make sense, and is gross. This is the kind of culture where the people who are killing themselves get rewarded. If you are willing to give up everything else in your life to work around the clock and don't question any of their processes or decisions, you will get a little attention from leadership and likely a lateral move, rewarding you with more work and no additional pay. A smart company, a company who cares for their employees, does not reward a lack of boundaries. Instead, they support mature adults who understand their limits and maintain a sustainable amount of work. Don't expect to do the best work of your life here. You will be too maxed out for that to be possible. Run, don't walk, away from this company. They are building the pyramids, and they don't care how many people are sacrificed in the process as long as they get built.

Pros

If you like working in a fast-paced environment and solving human-centered problems alongside intelligent and empathetic colleagues, you’ll enjoy working here. To know that the work you’re doing is directly and indirectly improving the lives of seniors and their families, as well as those of our amazing caregivers, is a feeling that can’t be beat in my book. The people here are also great to work with; they come from all different backgrounds but seem to be connected by a desire to make social impact. The culture here is one that is supportive and collegial, and there has been more emphasis placed on employee engagement as of late. There are ample growth opportunities for those with great work ethic who put in the time and effort to master their role. The fringe benefits like free lunches, good health insurance, stock options, etc. are also appealing.

Cons

Since we are a fast-growing startup with lofty goals, the further you progress in your career here (think manager and above) you may need to do work outside of core business hours. You can still have a good work-life balance but you’ll need to be more intentional about setting boundaries and practicing good time management. This isn’t unique to Honor but is something one should be prepared for.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. We are proud that you are so engaged with our Mission of providing better care for our Parents. Also, it is great that you have experienced a culture that puts People first! We understand that working for a rapidly growing organization can come with challenges and pain points and often that can come at the cost of work/life balance. The last thing we want to encounter is our employees experiencing a workload that is unsustainable. We hope and encourage all employees to find ways to unplug and disconnect from work and take time off so they can come back engaged and refreshed. Also, we take feedback from employees very seriously and are always looking at ways we can improve as an employer! Stay tuned for our annual engagement survey in the next month.

Pros

Honor is a fast-paced startup with a compelling mission. Over the course of my career, I've had the opportunity to work for a number of different startups. Honor compares favorably to these experiences on a number of different levels. First off, while most startups operate with an unapologetic tech/product first mentality, Honor operates with the perspective that we are first and foremost in the business of serving people - our employees, our caregivers, our clients and the people who care for them. This ethos permeates through the organization and informs our decision making in a way that much is much more real and tangible than at other companies that merely pay lip service to the concept of prioritizing people first. At Honor, I've had the privilege to work with some of the smartest and hardest working people I've encountered in my career to date. The people that I work with all prioritize the success of the company and our mission over personal aspirations - which is a rare thing, especially with a group as driven and competent as the leadership team at Honor. Finally, it gives me great confidence to know that our founders are all startup veterans with successful exits under their belt.

Cons

Startup life isn't for everybody. The pace is extremely fast and you have to be ready to pivot and move on a dime. It's definitely not a M-F, 9-5 work environment. While it's not unmanageable, expect to find yourself checking in "after hours" and keeping up to date on how things are going even when you're out of the office. This is pretty par for the course at most start ups, and the team here tries to cover for each other as much as possible, but it's important to keep in mind. Finally, the rate at which the company is scaling means that your day to day contribution could look very different 6 months from now than it does today, which is great for people who are looking to rapidly build new skills and expand their scope - but might be overwhelming for people who are more used to a slow and steady work environment.

Thanks for taking time to write a review! We are proud to hear you are compelled by our Mission and you've experienced People being prioritized! We value the contributions people bring to the company and constantly look for ways to encourage and recognize employees...stay tuned for a new employee Rewards and Recognition Program! We understand a company that is scaling quickly can come with pain points where you feel you have to be on 24/7, but we do not want to burn out our employees. We want employees to feel empowered to take time off and unplug so they can re-engage and come back to work refreshed.
