Philosophies Gone Wrong

Pros

Some people in the company are good.

Cons

Hotel Equities preaches entitlements as one of the leading hotel management companies in the southeast, but their failed philosophies and indirect discrimination destroys an otherwise great company. I interviewed for a position a while back and consistently wowed them throughout the course of several interviews. After meeting all the qualifications for the job, an offer was presented to me. I accepted the offer and proceeded to notify my current employer of my intent to leave. A few days after offer acceptance, the HR Department contacts me and overturns the decision solely on a background investigation on old and irrelevant offenses. Even holding a lengthy track record of excellence with an employer of equal business type and structure (enough to allow an exception), they expressed no concern on the fact I had already presented a resignation on my current employer to pursue a career with their company. If anything, the company needed to conduct these investigations prior to extending offers to their candidates. Keeping hope that they would hold true to their values, I researched the contact information for the current President and COO, writing him a respectfully crafted plea to my case, to which I never obtained a response. What is the use of having so many beautiful values listed if they are betrayed every working day? Now, granted if you ask them about the situation, they will find reasons to justify that what they did was the correct course of action. Luckily, I was able to retain my employment and have moved on to being a very successful individual with that company. I want to address each "core value" Hotel Equities betrayed with my situation: 1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (The Golden Rule): Basically, treat others as you would want them to treat you. Considering the treatment I received, I am assuming the company would want to be deceived as I was... 3. Hire an attitude and teach them the business: Clearly not the case here as the experience, personality, track record was present and a decision to hire me was made. 10. Having integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking: Ask yourselves, do you believe the company showcased integrity by not owning up to the mistake of following a proper order of hiring procedures? I didn't think so either. 11. Learn from your mistakes: I kept a close eye on the company and after my situation, they did reevaluate the hiring process. So I will give them 1 point on this for trying. 12. All people matter to God. -- This is perhaps the core value they list that angers me the most on doing so. The company is very heavy on religion. One of the things most religions preach about is forgiveness and opportunity. Sometimes people make mistakes, sometimes people just find themselves in trouble accidentally. All corporations alike need to stop focusing on past mistakes and channeling their vision strictly on what a person has done to re-mediate that. His successes and his consistency. After all, do you consider yourself “perfect”? For this and many other factors I will not mention, Hotel Equities lacks credit upon themselves and the majority of their executive employees. Hotel Equities is a decent company to work for; after all, it was my aspiration at the time to continue my professional journey through their company. However, and I promise I am being very sincere about this, you will be surrounded by hypocrisy and a tarnished vision of values shadowed by the pursuit of growth. Very Sincerely, Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'm sorry your experience was less than a great one. Like most companies we run background checks and drug screens after job acceptance. Sometimes things in those screens prevent us from moving forward with an offer. We follow strict guidelines to ensure all applicants are treated fairly. We do inform applicants of our intent to run these screen as well as give an applicant the chance to disclose possible offenses. Unfortunately, we were not able to continue with the hiring process but we wish you the best.

Pros

There are many resources available to help you grow as a professional. The "open door" policy is not just a statement, you really can talk to anyone in the company at anytime and request assistance or ask for help.

Cons

There is nothing they should change.
