Pros

The benefits is definitely what gets talent through the door at Hudl. They have unlimited vacation, amazing healthcare, 401k matching up to 4%, a yearly pro trip on the companies dime, great work environment and the product that they produce is very cool.

Cons

Despite the the great benefits and environment to work on, Hudl is one of the worst paying jobs in Nebraska. They used these benefit perks to justify the lower pay. Recently, they have been expanding tremendously and with that, profitability has taken over the need to value their employees. Especially in the sales department, they are expanding and such a great pace to try and take over the market, it gets to the point where they don't care who is with them when they achieve their goals, but as long as they get there.

One of the greatest internship experiences

Pros

For an intern looking to go into the field of software engineering, working at Hudl is an excellent opportunity. You're treated like a full time employee and given the same privileges. You work on a "squad" alongside full-time PMs, QAs, and other developers, and are encouraged to give your opinion while planning sprint tasks or reviewing your product's quarterly goal. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll certainly have the opportunity to significantly impact what you're working on, both from an engineering perspective and design/product development perspective. By the time I was leaving my internship, I actually felt like I had a personal stake in what my team and I were working on. Other than that, you're given a mentor/manager who you talk to on a weekly basis. Everyone else is also very open, and it's a very friendly environment where you can go up and introduce yourself to someone and pick their brains. Lastly, the perks are pretty good - an awesome workstation setup, free lunch, company + intern specific events, housing.

Cons

If you're looking to convert to full-time, it's easy to end up overworking yourself, but this is true for any company. Nebraska isn't the first choice for many students to spend their summer, but it wasn't that bad with other interns living in the same building as you.

Not the worst place to work

Pros

- No expectation of long hours - Many “business closed” days throughout the year - Paid sabbaticals

Cons

- The three founders who are still in charge don’t like to make decisions but also don’t like to delegate decisions to other leaders. Sometimes a charismatic person rises up and gets something done but mostly they let employees wander around directionless and hope for the best. It shows in the product quality. - Pay is mediocre. Meaningful raises only happen when top performers leave or threaten to. - They acquire 2-3 companies per year. They get glued on to the main products without being integrated so it’s a huge, stressful mess. - Seems to be all about the Sales department. Huge organization and they have this “Champions Club” where most of them go on a company-paid vacation every year. - Company hasn’t been profitable in years
