Pros

Friends and acquaintances regulalrly ask me if we have openings, so I can't be the only one with a high opinion. There are opportunites for career growth for those that are willing to sieze them and the company supports training & education heavily. There's sincere interest in employee well-being and in making a diference in the lives of customers. The company even surveys all employees anually to gauge engagement/job satisfaction and holds leaders accountable to improve when needed.

Cons

As much as I enjoy working here, I'll be the first to say that this is not a company for everyone. The core business is focused in a heavily regulated industry. Even though much is known regarding the impact of health care reform, there's still too much uncertainty for some people. Also, this is a company that prizes committment to customer service, innovation and constant improvement to stay ahead of competitors. In short, those who have a low tolerance for change or might be less than eager to make a difference in the lives of others may not be comfortable here.

Pros

Great Benefits, Flexible Schedule, Work on your own

Cons

Sales pressure which comes with any sales position and the working on your own can be a con if you don't have good time management

Pros

Brand recognition, potentially lucrative position. As with any other similar position, potential for upward mobility exists for those so motivated and qualified.

Cons

"Potentially lucrative." Opportunities for success at Humana range from minimal to low six figures, but it seems to take a special combination of marginal talent, the right relationships with the right people, and dumb luck to actually make a decent living. Those few honest individuals in management will admit your opportunities to make money are greatly enhanced or severely retarded by arbitrary factors that are out of agents' control, such as the states you are or are not licensed in, whether or not you're bilingual, what hours you work ( which is subject to a ludicrous and repetitively revised shift bid process ), which supervisor you're assigned to and your relationship with them. Also, for the # 2 insurer in the country, the benefits are awful.
