Pros

IBM is a good place to get your foot in the door and once you realize they are trying to stick you where the sun doesn't shine then come to terms and leave the joint.

Cons

In the division that I worked in downtown Tulsa, Business Consulting Services, management was extremely unoraganized, training was unheard of, and anyone you needed to contact for help was located in India and didn't know how to speak good English. Everything is micro-managed right down to the time you sit at your desk to the time you go on break. The yearly bonus was a joke and so was the pen & pencil set I received during the Christmas holiday. All of my overtime and extra effort put forth in many projects went unrecognized.

Pros

Good stepping stone to start your IT. Learn as much as you can then move on to a real rewarding job.

Cons

Management have no clue. They are arrogant and do take care of the low ranking employees. You will not be appreciated or rewarded for your hard work. They always look at the bottom line and how to cut cost without any regards for the employees. Management is a good old boys club. You need to rub elbows with the right people and brown nose your way to the top.

Pros

It's a great place if your in your mid-life or later-life career. The environment is easy going. Fortunately my management is very much on the order of "give the employee goals and let them at it". This lack of micromanagement style is refreshing considering this is almost a 100 year old company.

Cons

Everything is process and procedure. No authority to act in the best interest of the organization even though your judgement is trusted. You need to take the initiative and be assertive on issues. Covering your "ass" is very much in the culture, so beware. As an individual, it takes time to get used to this kind of place and the people who work here.
