Your job is not safe

Pros

If you are lucky enough to stay AND lucky enough to get a decent boss, work/life balance is not bad.

Cons

Too many to list. No one is safe. There are layoffs every year and you will never know if/when you are on the chopping block. Morale is at its 40 Year lowest. It is depressing to come to work not knowing if you are next. If you are NOT next, then those around you are gone and you get to pick up the slack and just figure out how to get your day-to-day business done. Forget process and procedures. Those inherently change as people come and go. I don’t recommend it.

Pros

Salaries are OK. Most managers allow working from home.

Cons

Extremely poor communication. Human resources are non-existant. Senior level management hardly associates with the rank and file. Lay offs are common. Morale is at an all time low.

Rough Experience

Pros

The products that are sold are really cool. The train is close to the office. The coffee mug has a good handle. Less than full time work because everyone leaves as early as possible and comes in as late as possible. If you are lucky enough to be management or Sales you can go MIA for days. Ample work from home schedules for those that can get away with it.

Cons

The policies do not hold up so don't tell the customer a policy because management will bend the rules every time and never have your back. No help from colleagues on how to learn your job or what is expected of you. Training is through eLearning. Hostile work environment with frequent layoffs and everyone in job protection mode. A lot of yelling and very unprofessional environment. Everyone, including management, talks about how much they hate "this place". Raises are less than the increase in health care and over time actual take home pay decreases. Reviews are not taken seriously, although your pay increases rely on them. The pay increase goes to whomever is getting along with the boss. Lots and lots of people with 15+ years in the same chair and they can be an asset but many of them have never worked anywhere else and do not understand best business practices. Very weak on diversity and women are not given equal opportunity. All women over 40 in Chicago have been laid off except Sales. Internal IT applications and processes are a mess and require more work and patience than the actual job. PCs and Laptops are issued OLD and everyone experiences the pains of hard drive crashes.
