Micromanaging.

Pros

Two weeks of training.

Cons

Micromanaging. Also, being on contract with another company results in complication, confusion, and resentment for many GC employees. You will have red tape to manage.

Pros

Learned a tremendous amount about dealing with people, both the public and coworkers. There was opportunity to learn many different facets of the business, and to function in a variety of roles. Pay was adequate but not outstanding, although there were good bonus and, at times, attendance incentives. There was an effort to make sure that disciplinary issues were handled fairly and consistently.

Cons

Positive culture overall, but with a negative undercurrent. For example, doing employee reviews, you were expected to find SOMETHING negative to say even if your employee was doing a good job, even on monthly evaluations. There was a good deal of covering one's own tail out of fear of job security. I once reported to a higher manager who micro-managed most of her subordinate managers to pieces, which sent a message of her lack of trust in us, and which I think was driven by her fear of being the one without a chair if the music stopped.

Pros

Can be entry-level, promotions from within, decent medical, dental & vision insurance. The management training program helped educate non-business world people how to become ethical business professionals, which is fabulous because many of the people in management have started as an entry-level employee with little to no experience. In this way, the company provides a great service to the local community with education and economic growth.

Cons

Because it is a lot of low skilled, entry-level work, highly skilled people just looking for a paycheck will be bored easily. If you can stick it out six months to a year, you'll most likely be in a management position. Also, there is a high turnover rate here, which tends to be a red flag for poor training and management. I think this may vary from center to center. Due to the promotions mostly being from within, it matters who you associate with. Maintain professionalism at all times, and you will move up very quickly.
