Pros

-Decent benefits -Fair wages for most -Growth and potential for advancement -Recently added 3 holidays per year to US to make it more comparable to Canada and more competitive in the south (current area of growth). US holiday schedule now generous.

Cons

-Change sometimes seemingly just for the sake of change -Lack of loyalty to most employees, but loyalty expected in return -Good old boy club -Poor communication (though recent efforts have improved this) -Us and them culture between management and working population (some improvements here, also) -No sick time -Not a good work/life balance through much of the organization on the US side

Pros

Its a paycheck Big on safety

Cons

Does not care for employees Will find any loop hole in the system to punish or fire an employee Company runs on slim to no consumable products and a very small inventory or parts. Runs on minimal employees, always short handed. Constantly changing how they want the mill to run. (log size, overtime, running extra head rig, etc.) Extremely high turn over rate, always new operators which leads to drop in production Poor communication Lack of experience/ intelligence in management

Pros

Plenty of professional opportunity due to company growth The assets are set up in great areas to succeed. Short term profitability outlook great (depending on the market.) Lot of fire & excitement from younger mid level managers.

Cons

Consistent high/mid level leadership turnover, mark it on your calendar every 6 months/year. Shoot from the hip mentality, lack of communication between executive, general managers, mill managers, to mid-level managers. Mills operating with Silo mentality, rather than a large business. Production focus forgets that this is also a business. Waste is plentiful, planning is lacking. Focus on day to day production numbers, lacking thought for sustainability. Treated as Sawmills, and best manufacturing practices/processes often overlooked. Canadian/Northwest Bias. For a company this size lacks leadership focused on long term sustainability using the correct people/processes and low cost combination that will keep the company competitive over the next 10-20 years.
