A Good Company That's Too Slow to Adapt

Pros

The environment is largely friendly and collegial--there are many good people who work at SelectHealth. The changing and evolving industry should provide lots of opportunity for new thinking--if leadership can muster the courage to allow it. The company, due largely to the strength of parent company Intermountain, is incredibly stable. I genuinely don't know what it would take to be fired or laid-off from SelectHealth.

Cons

Its history of being owned by the Church is still far too apparent. The company is largely patriarchal and lacks diversity--in every sense of the word (diversity of race and culture, diversity of thought, etc.). this is becoming more of a problem as the world and the workforce evolve. Opportunities for growth are non-existent. There is no consideration for career pathing, advancement, or skill development. And there are arcane rules surrounding holding leadership positions--you must possess a degree to be a manager, you must possess a masters to be a director, regardless of skill or professional experience. It is, again, a throwback to a long extinct era.
