Pros

Intuitive offers an exceptional product. Da Vinci surgery is truly revolutionizing surgeries and patient care, which makes it incredibly rewarding to be a part of and witness firsthand. It doesn't feel like traditional "sales" when you genuinely believe in the product and see firsthand how it positively impacts patients' lives. Over my three years here, I've experienced significant professional growth—more than at any other company. I was fortunate to work under an incredible manager who significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth. Intuitive does a fantastic job of training employees and providing resources for success. And a lot of the people who work at Intuitive are amazing. The sales training is intense. When you start, you need to make this your sole priority for 4-6 months to master the initial learning curve. But the growth and challenges continue beyond that initial period. I've never stopped learning or being pushed in my time at this company. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity I had to work at Intuitive.

Cons

Burnout is a significant issue here. From my experience, achieving work-life balance in this role is nearly impossible. Many colleagues make this job their entire life. Territory demands vary, but managing a high-volume area with multiple Surgeon Champions and specialties means being constantly available —even during personal time, after hours, or vacations. The phone never stops buzzing. Your daily schedule is nearly impossible to predict or plan for. Cases cancel, case times change, cases add-on, cases run long, surgeons schedules are unpredictable. All part of the job, but it results in significant time wasted standing outside ORs and sitting in hospital lobbies. The overly enthusiastic sales culture can feel insincere and forced, which becomes tiresome over time. They want everyone to talk the same, walk the same, and drink the koolaid. Many markets are highly saturated, yet unrealistic quota expectations persist. Finding opportunities can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Because of this, earning potential is limited. Considering the heavy workload, reps are significantly underpaid, with compensation primarily tied to surgeon trainings and capital deals—opportunities for which are increasingly scarce in many markets. Look at how many tenured reps have left in the past 12 months - the numbers do not lie. The promotion pathway is also rigid here, but it does prepare you well for the next role. It involves two years (usually longer) as a Clinical Territory Associate (CTA), followed by one year as a Clinical Sales Associate (CSA), before finally being eligible to advance to Clinical Sales Rep (CSR). Opportunities for higher roles like Manager or Director are infrequent, and when they do become available, there is often fierce competition among internal candidates. And again, the ones who typically do promote to these types of roles are big koolaid drinkers. Ultimately, I decided to leave because I value work-life balance and believe I can achieve similar, if not greater, success elsewhere with less sacrifice. My mental health was struggling towards the end of my time at Intuitive because of the high-pressure sales culture, unrealistic expectations, and lack of personal time. I’m sharing this to give others a clear picture of what they might face in this role. Intuitive is undoubtedly a great company with many strengths, but it’s important to consider if it aligns with what you’re looking for. Don't fall into the trap of thinking Intuitive is the only option—while it’s a valuable addition to your resume, there is indeed life after Intuitive. And many companies will offer much better compensation for the work you put in.

Great sales training and development program that sets you up for success specific to each role you step into. True commitment to the mission of advancing healthcare, that enables a fulfilling and rewarding career.

Cons

Fast-paced environment with high expectations. Not necessarily a "con" however may not be everyone's desire in a career.

Pros

There is nowhere, and no one like Intuitive. From the mission to the people, it is in a league all its own. This is not a paid review, there is no compensation, I genuinely believe this from the bottom of my heart. It is the best company I have ever worked for and I have made lifelong friends here. Pros: AMAZING culture. Continuous investment from leadership in all of us as people, our work life balance, our mental health, us as people, and our education. This is a company where you genuinely feel supported and seen. Intuitive has made a huge culture shift over the last ~6 or so years and has focused largely on diversity and inclusion which has been incredibly refreshing to see. I originally started in sales here and have since moved to marketing, and what stood out to me was how supportive everyone was during my transition. The training our managers and leaders receive is second to none and they could not have been more supportive or understanding. They call it the 'Intuitive jungle gym' and it is rare to find opportunities where you can seamlessly do it, but my whole team made sure that they supported me following my passion- I'm still even in the old sales group chat and will always feel welcome. The technology, of course, is also one of the biggest pros- to know that you are part of a mission that is so innovative and life changing for patients is extremely rewarding. I may be biased since I was in the OR for so long here seeing the products up close and personal, but there is nothing cooler than robotic surgery and working for the pioneer of it is such a rewarding feeling. Intuitive cares for their employees, the benefits are outstanding, leadership actively listens and while it is a difficult, fast paced job with high expectations, the attitudes and commitment from everyone in the organization motivates you to keep going. I'm on year 3 and hope to retire here. I feel welcome and open to email upper leadership back and to reach out to them directly and am ALWAYS met with a response and a smile. In a company this large, how rare and awesome is that? Will always recommend Intuitive to my friends and family and feel lucky every day that I work here.

Cons

As mentioned above, an innovative, fast-paced company like Intuitive means that things move quickly and there are high deliverables on the line. Sometimes this can lead to a struggle with a work/life balance and feelings of burnout. I felt it more while in sales than I do in my current position, but applaud leadership for listening to our employee survey responses and implementing flex PTO along with Lyra (mental health benefits) and volunteer opportunities to offset the race we run here. It has made a world of difference. I also am lucky enough to have amazing, supportive managers and teammates who acknowledge that time to recharge your batteries is needed and always advocate for us to do that.

Pros

Great place to work: The company culture is collaborative, supportive, and inclusive, making it an absolute pleasure to come to work every day. Effective business plan: Our leadership has a clear vision, and we have a well-structured plan in place to achieve our goals. This clarity of direction makes it easy for me to prioritize my work and contribute to the company's success. Meaningful work: What I love most about my job is the direct impact it has on patient outcomes. Knowing that my work is helping to improve people's lives is incredibly fulfilling and motivates me to strive for excellence every day. Growth opportunities: Intuitive Surgical offers numerous opportunities for professional growth and development, whether it's through training programs, mentorship, or taking on new challenges. I've been able to expand my skill set and advance my career in a relatively short period.

Cons

Processes and procedures: Like any large organization, we have our share of bureaucracy and processes that can sometimes slow us down. While these procedures are in place for good reasons, they can occasionally feel like "sand in the gears." Room for improvement: However, I'm heartened to see that our management team is actively listening to feedback and working to streamline our processes. It's clear that they're committed to continuous improvement and making our work more efficient.

Pros

The company truly cares about what is occurring in the OR. The patient is the number 1 focus. We are trained to be there so the patient wins, after that then the surgeon, OR staff, hospital will win.

Cons

The training is super intense. You will need 110% focus.
