Irvine Company is very different than it appears from the outside
Pros
Beautiful properties, stable financials, looks good on a resume. People seem to be impress when I tell them where I work.
Cons
This review is for the apartment division only. I am told the Office division runs a decent operation. The apartment division is an utterly joyless, chaotic work environment! Leadership is greatly lacking at the community VP level. They fill their days with back to back, unproductive meetings exchanging endless corporate jargon so they are unable to be reached to actually work and make decisions in a timely matter. They avoid decision making/problem solving at all costs as they are petrified of taking a stance. It is all about "pushing the needle" and "circling back". He who is most fluent in this nonsensical corporate speak wins! They "escalate" even the most basic questions rather than taking responsibility. With all the cautious analysis you would think when they finally roll out new initiatives they would have it right. You would be wrong. There are far too many examples to list but they spend thousands of dollars and wasted man hours on ill conceived initiatives they later retract or more likely just mysteriously disappear (the empowerment box, anyone?) Communication to the field is also not a strong suit at TIC. Bottom line is it is just not a fun place to work. Everyone seems to be stressed and just going through the motions including senior management. Within the past year several dozen key people have left the organization and the ones that remain are uninspiring to be kind. They no longer offer a rent discount to associates. It is all about the bottom line and number crunching. That understandable this is corporate America after all. But treating the residents right is not a priority. If someone has a good experience it is due to the dedicated on site teams and not because senior management truly cares about its clients. While they pay lip service to customer service with the strong California rental market behind close doors they believe that there are plenty more customers and do not make a sincere effort to keep their current residents happy.
