Pros

Good opportunity to learn the complex supply chain but you will have to do this on your own.

Cons

The company is trying to survive and the environment is not a very positive one. Low morale, trying to cut costs everywhere, job eliminations due to restructure, causing more work with less resources and poor technology.

Pros

Employee discount. Health benefits. Some customers are amazing people.

Cons

Little to no hours. Terrible pay. Employees are undervalued. No respect. Little opportunity. Some customers make you wonder why you ever had faith in humanity. It doesn't matter how much effort you put in or how hard you work. You could come in every one of your days off and they still won't recognize your work. Promotions and hours are given based on friendships instead of work ethic. The new guy who just came in is friends with one of the guys upstairs. He has little to no prior experience or education but he will start out making more than you, get more hours than you even though he does nothing and is late every day. If you really get in good with management, they'll come up with some unofficial title for you to give you more responsibilities without any of the pay. You'll essentially be doing the same job as your superior without the raise. The store is an absolute disaster because they won't staff it properly. They expect one person to do the work of four people while receiving the wages of one fourth of a person. If you can push credit applications, expect to get all of the hours. The second you've outlived your usefulness, expect to be brushed aside. If you challenge the higher ups in any way or are perceived to be challenging them, you will be nitpicked relentlessly. The dress code is irrelevant if you're one of the favorites. If you're on someone's bad side expect every shade of red you buy to be "the wrong shade of red". You will be written up and sent home even though someone else is wearing the same shade of red as you as well as ripped denim and sneakers. In the summer time the store will be a blistering ninety-five degrees with no AC but you won't be allowed to wear shorts. They like to talk about how everyone is a "team" and we're all "one big family" at JCP. However, their actions seem to speak to the contrary. If you are assaulted by a customer, they will do nothing about it. The same customer can and will come back through those doors the very next day and do it again. If you are sexually assaulted/harassed by customers while on the sales floor, they will inform you that there is nothing they can do. It doesn't matter if someone follows you around the store for weeks making inappropriate comments and groping you in front of everyone. Someone filed a sexual harassment complaint against another employee and was fired not even two weeks later for being five minutes late. The person accused of sexual harassment has other claims against them and was also the person who fired her. If you are a man and go into the office to make a formal complaint of sexual harassment, they will literally laugh out loud at you. Management will conduct business in the most unprofessional manners. Management will have conversations on the sales floor with associates in front of customers about other associates. He will talk to associates about other associates' performance, attendance, records, violations, conduct, and even go as far as telling people who is going to be fired. He will also tell you why certain people are getting their hours cut instead of having a private meeting with the individual the matter concerns. There will also be conversations with associates in front of customers such as: Management: "Did you hear the news about 'Suzy Lou'? Do you know why she was fired? She was fired for X, Y, Z. How does that make you feel?" That information is nobody's business except "Suzy Lou’s”. If Suzy wants to share that information, she is more than welcome to share it with whoever she chooses.

Pros

The hours are decent. Paid time off for full-time employees.

Cons

Not enough employees, not enough help. Way too much micromanaging. No room for advancement if you are not a favorite. No benefits for part-time employees. Upper management doesn't get involved enough to understand what's actually going on in the stores.
