Pros

Name recognition is great. I don't have to explain to family what I do for a living. Just saying JD Power does the trick.

Cons

If you are not part of a "pet project" you will not be noticed by senior management. Even though you may manage a ton of profitable business, if you're not on some initiative, you will notbe recognized and therefore not rewarded for your efforts that are actually making money for the company. We are also behind the times when it comes to technology like web portals for research data. We're just starting to get there and what we're coming up with is far too expensive and exclusionary.

Great people Impact on customers History of relevance and calling it like it is

Cons

Driven by need to cut costs -- often by jettisoning senior folks with great skills for less expensive junior staff. Tactical floundering instead of strategic investment. Seriously threatened by Net review sites -- think Tripadvisor -- without clear strategy for future. Too willing to dilute the brand for quick economic fix.
