Pros

-They are a large company -Class A equipment, but most companies have that -I was able to leave and get a job that literally paid $10k more for exactly the same work and hours -Johnson Matthey is backwards, so if youre hyper conservative and like working for nothing, this is the place for you

Cons

-Draconian rules and regulations regarding employees liberties -75% of people that work here are uptight, unfriendly, arrogant and generally unlikable -They expect you to be a masochist for their benefit, but give you little in return, they have a disrespectful/entitled mentality of 'You should just be glad you have a job here' -Pay is sub-par compared to even smaller companies -Working here reminded me of the set of that Terry Gilliam movie 'Brazil' -Almost everyone I worked with here was unhelpful in educating me about the products being made, very little freedom of thought and worse of all, the people are just simply rude

Pros

Decent benefits but they are working on ruining that. The people are the best part but that is also changing as the company is changing.

Cons

Used to be a family type place who cared about people. Now just a numbers game. the new CEO, Robert McLeod has grand visions. His first major decision as CEO was the worst one, "install SAP" what I call "fools gold". 4 years later and still not one successful installation at one site. Millions invested. So now he has to cut costs so he is bleeding every place dry and squeezing everything to the minimum. Moved to a matrix and brought in high level people from the outside who don't understand the business and don't care about people. Such a waste.

Pros

I can only speak for the hourly side of this company. (Refining & Chemicals) Pay is well enough to live comfortably. Can participate in human resource activities such as the "wing bowl" and ice cream day, but only if you're on the applicable shift of day work. They used to provide turkeys and hams during thanksgiving for employees, but they had taken that away to cut costs. Can learn valuable skills and training, but best to learn what you can and use this place as a stepping stone to a real career.

Cons

Do not expect to grow or move around this company. The majority of people who work here are generally nice people and mean well, but will throw you under the bus to save their own skin at any cost. Safety is at the bottom of the list for this company's values. They may preach they are safe and care about safety, but don't be fooled. More tenured employees with 7-10 years of employment can get away with just about anything, so the real work and production falls onto the new underpaid employees. Management hires supervisors and managers who lack any sort of relevant experience needed to perform or troubleshoot in relative environments. Also to note, the union is a joke. Upper management has pulls and ties with the ability to divide the union and get anything they want from union committee. Management will take everything away they possibly can while the union sits back and watches. Anyone who speaks up will generally be ousted and left on the street looking for another job. This is not a real union shop and you have no job security whatsoever.
