Pros

All of the pros of the company lie in the benefits and culture that are rewarded to all of the employees. They truly seem to care about the day to day happiness of employees, and the employee happiness team work extremely hard. The lines of communication seem to be very open, and all of the teams tend to work together and mingle quite well. All in all, they have the typical standard tech startup benefits like snacks in the office, dogs running around, comfortable spaces to work, and cocktail events. However, this is becoming commonplace among the startup community, particularly in NYC and SF. So if the reason you take a job is because the perks seem cute, it would be wise to look at every other startup that does the exact same thing. The product itself is amazing, and it practically sells itself.

Cons

All of my cons are related to the sales org specifically. Because Sales is one of the largest teams at the company and there are glaring issues there, these should be reflected on glassdoor. I feel like the company and the employee happiness team in general push for positive reviews from the rest of the company in attempts to drown out the real holes in the sales team. First of all, the pay is absolute garbage compared to other companies. For similar roles, expect to be paid between 5-10K less on your base salary at Justworks. In addition to base salary, the commission that is promised rarely ever comes to fruition. The commission gap between top performers and bottom performers is slim. In terms of salary, I was lucky enough to not work in sales development, but the sales dev reps' final compensation is so low I am amazed that they can even live and pay rent in NYC or any of the surrounding areas. I think their hiring plan is to get fresh college grads who have no idea how underpaid they truly are. The rest of the Account Executives like myself naturally had a higher salary, but a disproportionately high amount of work. The sales dev reps below me purely cold called and often would hand me awful accounts just to hit their numbers. This led me to stop trusting those below me and work even more for myself and not for the company. In addition, people constantly talk poorly about each other, and the gossip in this place is outrageous. I think this is partly because people feel so comfortable, but also because people drink so much in the office. As I mentioned above, the product is great. Because of this, you could assemble a sales team full of idiots and still get a similar pattern of production. At a certain point, this is going to fizzle, and the sales managers will have to reevaluate how they run the business, which in reality is extremely hands-off. Moving on to management, they consist of 70% individuals who do not care to help or lend a hand, and typically you can find them online shopping or messaging their significant others. This group also rarely comes up with ideas to bring the teams together, or strategize ways to continue to up sales figures. Again, this has to do with the product being so good it could practically sell itself. This portion of the managers sit back and watch the profits because literally anyone could sell this stuff. The other 30% consist of cheesy over-enthusiastic team members who do not understand the difference between passion for work, and work becoming your entire social life and existence. I will attribute this behavior to the "Glassdoor" effect. In your interview process and post-hiring they hammer home that they want all employees to submit a glowing review, in order the keep the high rating on this website. It's essentially a forced happiness tactic that I am sure aids recruiting, but it also feels like a sham. My final point is that the sales organization feels limiting, and I simply can't live off a salary this low, and a ceiling this low as well. Once you hit a certain point, you can't get much higher unless you move into management, which is equal to a glorified babysitter. At my age and with my sales experience, I had to leave for another organization because the compensation was too low and the managers do very little.

Pros

Overall nice friendly people NYC office has great views

Cons

Had a new boss come in who kept asking me to spend the weekend alone w them away from their spouse at a secluded lake house. Reported to HR who "investigated", then offered for me to return to original position reporting to same person. I noted I feared retailation- they said they would review. Then they came back and offered me a demotion reporting to the same manager. I said I was concerned that I was being subjected to retaliation. They said they would review- then they fired me. Average pay increase don't keep up with inflation (the longer you stay your real take home pay goes down)

Pros

I’ve met a few wonderful people that I maintain personal relationships with.

Cons

The onboarding department is one of the most juvenile departments I’ve ever worked for. Management doesn’t have a clue as to what they’re doing. Every other day there’s changes. You are scrutinized by QA. You do not get to enjoy the same perks as other departments. Don’t be fooled by flexible PTO, it’s everything but flexible. Don’t get me started on the pay! This company is one of the worst paying companies in the industry. They think a 1% raise is something to celebrate, Senior managers are some of the worst I’ve ever come across. Most of the people on that team are miserable and management is either clueless or doesn’t care, There’s a high turnover rate. If you don’t ask a million questions and pretend to be interested in the many meetings they have, it’s counted against you. Prepare to be on camera every single day, whether it’s internal or with incompetent customers. You’ll be expected to “cushion” aka coddle customers and cater to their tantrums. Did I mention there’s an internal meeting several times a week on top of customer meetings?! Answering a simple email takes the longest time as you have to write internal notes, categorize it, and link it to previous interactions. I’m convinced management sits at a round table and thinks of more nonsense for us to do. You’ll also have a black out period during the holidays when most people want to be with their family, So don’t count on going anywhere between the first week of December till about the third week of January. This department is reminiscent of high school, it’s all a popularity contest, All in all, I met some great people and learned about what I never want to deal with again!!
