While I was part of the recent layoffs, my experience was way more than that. I had been with the company 10+ years. In my last role, I had 15 different leadership changes in about 8 years. Each came with a new structure, new direction, and new roles. None of which came with a pay raise. I was given multiple answers (from leadership including HR) on if a senior position even existed while other coworkers with less experience and less seniority were given that title. I had no clear direction on how to advance into a senior role. I had coworkers in other departments tracking my tasks and building cases to complain about me to leadership and HR was not helpful when I went asking for help. I started with 12 projects and when I left I had 160+. The tools didn’t support our needs and the leadership didn’t support the training so even the functionality that existed didn’t actually help. I was there as KLAS let upper management harass, bad mouth, and play favorites and when something was finally done they were given a couple months to find something new. While those of us who had been there for 10+ years putting in evenings, weekends, and holidays were let go without a warning. They couldn’t even look me in the eyes and over Teams instead of doing this on a day when everybody was in office. They picked a day when people were expected to be working from home. I was expected to always be available with teams and outlook being on my phone. The Sales team was always prioritized with many processes being built and tasks added to Operations because the Sales team was unreliable and often given a pass on following process. Pay was alright but never matched increases to workload. Female leadership is getting pushed out and there is very little positive female leadership available. Very little diversity in the open. Differences are discussed as an idea. But not reflected individually. And the entire time I was there, there wasn’t work life balance. In fact, in one company meeting employee wellness was said to not be the priority of leadership. While that doesn’t have to be the main focus of a company, making a point to say that and also tell a room full of employees that they aren’t burnt out while we were all making “jokes” about crying at work and needing to drink all evening after work.
