Pros

People and culture are second to none. I have worked at many different styles of places during my career, and never have I experienced the quality of talent and attitude that we have here. Yes, the work is difficult and VERY demanding, but the environment here makes it worth it. Also, plenty of room to experience different roles for good people. I have seen the company go out of its way to find roles that fit both the talent and lifestyle needs of its people.

Cons

Location in north Austin makes a difficult commute for anyone living south of Town Lake.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! In regards to the an equity/ownership plan. We do have a plan being reinstated. Once all of the details are finalized, we'll make sure everyone knows about it.

Pros

My first impressions of this company haven't changed in the almost 4 years since I was hired. I kept waiting for the "shoe to drop" but it never happened. I truly love it here. Are there problems, of course, but we are continuing to strive to be better and better. Many companies give lip service about getting better - but I see daily improvements driven by the employees. I see that we live by our patch values -this is an important point. I believe in our purpose and I believe in how we are getting to accomplish our mission. What better way to spend your hours than fighting the good fight in a way that brings you purpose? There have been many a company event where my cheeks hurt because I was smiling so much - and I wasn't drinking - although, if you like beer, we do have beer:30 on Fridays.

Cons

Sometimes there is a sense of jumping in a direction and going without thinking about all the consequences. The front line has to execute and ultimately has to deal with it. I do see progress in this area, but it could still be better. It'd be nice to see us fully graduate out of start up mode.

Some of the most important things to us is to be constantly improving, never accepting the status quo, and learning from our mistakes (because we of course make them). It is great to see others appreciate the same thing.

My perspective after a few years

Pros

*The culture is real, and the leaders really believe in it and care about how employees are treated. *After a few recent departures and additions, the senior leadership team is very strong. *If leadership acts in ways that run counter to the culture, you can call them on it. *It's a mission-driven company - most of us truly believe in the mission and really care about the customer. *I work with several teams, and they're full of smart people I genuinely enjoy seeing every weekday - it's the best job I've ever had. *Benefits are great (other than very low 401k matching); PTO is flexible as long as you're performing; salary equity is steadily improving; there are tons of smaller perks. *The culture really values fitness. Kasasa subsidizes a great circuit training program for employees (run by OTL) and supports other fitness events, we're right next to PureFitness, and some of us even do meetings while walking around Quarry Lake. (This *partly* offsets all the free food.) You don't have to be a gym rat, but it's great to have active co-workers. *If you prove yourself through performance, there are opportunities to move up and into other roles. *The business is achieving great results - Kasasa's community banks and credit unions are now one of the top branch networks in the entire US, ready to go toe-to-toe with megabanks like Chase, and the next few years look really bright.

Cons

*Performance standards can be inconsistent, and it sometimes takes awhile for low performers to be held accountable. This is improving, and the overall performance level is high. *There's still an issue of uneven culture - some teams aren't integrated with the company culture as well as other teams, and the company's big enough (over 300 people) that there will be people you never really meet. *Some managers are more on board with the culture than others. Just like Google, there's a strong overall culture, but your individual manager also matters. *The business is complex, and it's tough for many employees to see the full picture unless they have access to more strategic conversations. *Pay is uneven - some departments are way above the Austin norm, and others slightly below. But the company is steadily addressing this issue.
