Pros

Commissions paid fairly quickly and some products can pay a large percentage

Cons

Almost no training at all. Leads are scarce, you have to call people who barely know you the company is, and there is no reimbursement whatsoever for expenses. You are completely self employed yet expected to react to management and upper management like an employee. Most of the sales agents lie about being independent agent (instead of captive) to get in the door.

Pros

Steady income, great people, plenty of resources, solid brand.

Cons

Burn out culture, internal leadership drama, company hasn't idea how to create good culture, constant team morale issues. Paying their own people is hard, yet throwing money away on business initiatives that don't work is easy for upper leaders.

Pros

Look, I know you are looking for a job and maybe considering Kemper. Please do your research not just here on GD but also elsewhere. The "good" reviews here on GD are completed by Kemper employees who just started and are told to write a review within their first week. The atmosphere within the company was toxic, to say the least. There was a palpable sense of tension and stress in the air at all times. They are always reshuffling the manager deck and announcing lay offs. The company is unstable. Decisions were made without considering their impact on the workforce, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and demotivation. Employee feedback was often ignored or dismissed, creating a sense of powerlessness among the staff. Once they did an employee survey and pretty much discounted everything the employees responded to. Unfortunately there are some good people trapped here. They are being taken advantage of by poor leadership and a CEO that just doesn't care and earns 1000 times more than the average employee at Kemper, prioritizing profit over the well-being of policyholders and employees, this company is quick to lay you off no matter what contributions you have made or how long you were employed there. The pro is that they will do it with a severance.

Cons

Career growth and merit increases were scarce within the company. Promotions seemed to be based more on favoritism rather than merit, leading to a sense of disillusionment and stagnation among ambitious employees. If you do get a merit increase...you are lucky to get 2%. Employees who do well are often not given an increase at all, citing that it is a meritocracy and only exceeds expectations get bonuses. Bonuses are therefore reserved for the upper management and very few exceed. Turnover is high.
