Where do I start? The school I worked at changed the job description when I got there. One of the most unethical places to work. Most of the administration have no idea how to manage students or listen to their faculty. They blame teachers for everything and teachers have 0 representation. Despite being one of the most well-off districts in Texas, they do not invest in their teachers, in online grading systems, wireless capability. One of my biggest complaints is that teachers are pulling double duty, i.e. the administration tells teachers that there aren't enough students, doubles up the classes and says if teachers can't take on extra classes they can go somewhere else. Then, when you look they threaten you with bad reviews. During COVID, the biggest issue was student retention. We told the administration students were not showing up to Zoom, but counselors argued we could not force them to because it might reveal certain students economic situation. As a result we had tons of students failing because they wouldn't show up for class, but we were advised to "show grace", which was code for pass the students even if they were failing. Teachers were made to follow up on student absences, despite marking them in the system, and when we didn't hear back from anyone, we had to come up with recovery plans, basically take an oral exam that is a student who missed of year of instruction could pass, they would pass the year. At the beginning of the pandemic, we did not follow the state mandated space apart, but were forced to put more students in the classroom to keep numbers high so we would get state funding. I was told by one administrator, if students aren't in seats, you don't have a job.
