Pros

Union is the best and depending on what office you work in you can find some really pleasant employees that you can actually consider family.

Cons

Management can be the worst experience you have working for Legal Aid. The Attorney In Charge of the Civil Practice is all about the face of Legal Aid, knowing only God knows what with the funding provided. Staff is unappreciated and super underpaid. No matter how hard you work or the all you give the job you are only judged based on your attendance because there are some office managers that are real petty with the time. Did I mention you can also be stuck doing their work and others that delegate their job when don't feel up to doing it.

Pros

Great colleagues and clients; Meaningful work

Cons

Disorganized; slow-to-respond HR; new AIC addresses to staff like they're disposable, demoralizing a committed work force.

Pros

I work from home most days My transit is paid by company Pension - 1199 Union Medical - zero copays Dental-zero copays 403B Union Can pretty much take vacation anytime I need to - Tons of sick time - 35 hours of personal time - vacation buyback I work 9-5 so it gives me the freedom to do a sidelong career where I make commissions that exceed my Legal Aid annual salary.

Cons

Extreme liberal ridiculous views on pretty much everything. No filter on emails of staff members. Nothing like a corporate environment. Corporate would likely fire people on the spot for some of the brazen comments made in company wide emails…High turn over of Paralegals because they all want to go to law school.
