Pros

The Benefits, retirement, pay its government after all

Cons

Everything else. Very political. They definitely take advantage of those who are “at will” and not in a union. So many higher ups have no idea what they’re doing so newcomers (especially young employees) are constantly blamed. Someone in our department was let go as a result of this. Horrible. Our manager had no idea what our department was working on at any given time. Knew nothing about our processes and didn’t care to learn. I seriously question how they got this 200k+ salary knowing so little and taking zero time to learn. My supervisor was constantly putting everyone down and blaming others as well claiming how busy they were though they were always leaving early and coming in late. So many people constantly blaming others for anything and everything. “I never said that. I gave that to X” is very common so ultimately the good hearted people who haven’t learned the system yet suffer. Everyone refuses to take responsibility. The amount of bullying that I’ve experienced and witnessed with myself and others is unbelievable but no one does anything about it because those who bully have job security and those who don’t are new and know they can be fired for any reason. It’s no wonder LA’s transportation system is so bad with these irresponsible, bullying leaders in place.

Pros

They pay well, I have been fortunate to never have to work on the weekends due to me staying a part time Operator.

Cons

Being a bus Operator, you are nothing more than just your badge number even though we are the ones who keep the company afloat. I have been spit on, attacked, threatened repeatedly by passengers and the company does nothing to make you the employee feel safe. It was gotten to the point where i am literally scared to go to work everyday because God knows what's going to happen to me next. Some of the management stinks. I was being harassed for almost a year from my division manager had to file and EEO claim on her and repeated calls to the union and the end result was to send me to another division when she was the one harassing me! God forbid you get sick outside of work and have to take time off, I had surgery last year over the summer and once I returned to work I received a note stating I was on the verge of suspension because of my surgery I had HOW IN THE WORLD IS THAT EVEN LEGAL! The supervisors think they are cops, they talk down on bus operators as if we're children. I am currently looking for work else where so I can get the hell out of MTA. I can't stress this enough DO NOT apply as a bus Operator unless you really need a job it's not worth the stress!
