Pros

If you like helping people and being busy, you can thrive. If you are a really good worker they will keep you on even if you are a seasonal hire, because they need good people year round. Generally nice people for fellow workers and customers compared to other stores and decent benefits for retail. And I’ve been in retail quite a while.

Cons

As in all big boxes, it’s hard on your feet, legs and maybe knees. Get really good shoes or sneakers, or rotate between multiple pairs. Not for bulls!!!ers and real lazy people because you will tick off customers and your fellow workers. Part-timers can lose hours when business is really slow. As in most retail staffing can sometimes be bad which adds stress. Hours can vary too much. You could easily start as early as 6am and work as late as 10 pm within a 2 or 3 day period. This looks like lot of cons, but for retail, it’s a pretty good company. I like it better than its big competitor where I worked for 7 + years.

Pros

Health insurance and medical care. Room for advancement or to move to other positions. Provides certification for those willing to learn. Ability to help out the community through Hero program.

Cons

Employees are overworked and under compensated in pay. Severe lack of communication between management and their employees. Managers are always hard to get a hold of, whether page or call. No solid shift scheduling; you are expected to work extreme opposing shifts as a normalcy. One half of the week you open, the next your close. Everyone is expected to help out everywhere. Nothing is covered by a specified group of people dedicated to making that one area possible to achieve. Everyone has got a hand in the pot and it leads to double orders, no orders being placed, things not being documented, delays in installation, decline in certain departments, and a whole bunch of other issues that make it nearly impossible to do the job you were hired for. You then have to answer to management why some things were not done, when you spent all your time across the store out of your department to help out customers, fix orders, etc. The harder you work, the more your expected to do. Those who don't do much, wont have much expected of them, which leaves far and few between who add value to the company. In short, there is a lot of favoritism going on. The above speaks specifically for the Lowes I worked at and on things I have personally experienced, not for the company as a whole. Though, I have witnessed these same practices at other stores Ive visited.
