      You get what you paid for

      Pros

      We used to have a very smart group of engineers. The company get rid of good experiences workers for cheap labor with new college grad. The good workers either left or got laid-off and go to the competitors.

      Cons

      It started to get political and promoted only their friends. If we are not part of the upper management favorites, then no matter how hard we work, we will always be at the bottoms.

      Good Short-Term Opportunity; Not Long-Term

      Pros

      I had the opportunity to intern with Lumentum over the summer. I really enjoyed my project, the other interns, and the very relaxed environment. My manager was very professional and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to me. The entire intern program was run by another intern, so it’s relatively intern-centric.

      Cons

      There is a HUGE disconnect between the upper management that administers and oversees the intern program. The management team didn’t really want to interact with us. Another example of the disconnect is that there were times when “new college grads” would join us at intern events but the majority of them were PhD students who are in senior positions. In addition, the company is not transparent on their performance review and deciding who to hire. The company only hires interns into direct engineering positions.

      We are very proud of our intern program here at Lumentum. Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to share your experience as an intern with us. Our intent is for all interns to have a good experience, however, our program has never been directly tied to our regular full time hiring needs.
