It put me through college

Pros

They allowed me to only work nights during the week so I could attend school during the days. The food is so expensive that even a 15% tip was a good amount of money.

Cons

This company treats their employees as if they are expendable. They make servers, bartenders and bussers work between 40-50 hours a week. So when days or shifts are requested off we were told by management "you can have everyday off, no one's forcing you to work here". Management may work 50+ hours a week but they still get their 2 days off a week, and yet we weren't entitled to the same luxury. During my time at Lupe Tortilla I moved up within the store to different position. This was ultimately the worse decision I made. I was used to cover the shifts of people who didn't show or to replace a person who quit out of nowhere. To them I was someone they knew was reliable so they used me to ensure they didn't get in trouble by corporate. They did not care how it was effecting me financially. In this company if you do not conform to Judson and his teams idea of Lupe Tortilla quality, which is changed constantly, you will not advance in your position. During my time there I witnessed managers who practically ran the stores for their General Managers and yet they never got promoted. In my own opinion I personally think it was because the managers with the skills "didn't look the part" to be an MP. All their locations are strategically placed in influential areas in the city. I'm guessing to them it wouldn't make sense to put someone in charge who is not of the same ethnicity of the customers they server. This company requires their employees to always find a way to say yes to their guests. Whether it be by finding an alternative or getting it done in way that is pretty similar. They however don't give their employees the same common courtesy.

Ghetto. Terrible management.

Pros

If you're a good server you will make good money.

Cons

The management is so bad. The main manager encourages other managers to disrespect employees. The restaurant is ghetto. I've had to kill roaches several times in front of guests and had to apologize. On the weekends the restaurant constantly runs out out of chips (in a Mexican restaurant), glasses, silverware, etc.. They do not put the guests first, they put money first. I've witnessed managers come on to female employees. The main manager has told other managers and employees not to inform certain employees of company competitions to stop employees who he dislikes from winning. The managers gossip about the employees to other employees. It's sad. I was asked to work off the clock several times to save the company money, which is illegal.
