The management structure is fairly standard old style. My line manager isn't directly involved in the product I develop so doesn't know how well I am doing, or of my big achievements. Salary is not competitive and the only way to get a rise is to get promoted.

The management and HR approach at Datavantage is extremely adversarial to the employees. The pay scale, unless you are in upper management, is well below the market for NE Ohio. Many people who are in management at DV are in their positions mainly due to their seniority with the company or because they were "good workers." The principle of being promoted to management because someone is a "good leader" is lost on these folks. The net effect is that you have managers who have no idea how to lead or motivate people, and who are only able to use negative reinforcement when expectations are not met. The managerial attitude and skillset, along with the low pay, has led to the revolving door effect that has been going on at DV for several years now.
