Pros

Good place to work if you need technical experience on your resume. Beautiful location in the outskirts of suburban Columbia. Large, open parking lots with lots of free, open parking space. Nice building to work in, facilities are excellent! There are always job openings (because the pay is so low), due to turnover. Layoffs are also non-existent, so stability is not a question. Company stock is good, and 401k performance is pretty good. Company is growing and making more money every year.

Cons

If you work in the Customer Support Center, be prepared for an experience! It's a 24x7 environment, without any extra pay. You will not get a pay raise as of 2009, because the CEO says the economy is bad and our salaries are "sufficient". Employees who work in Customer Support get paid well below the market value. Overtime was banned, because upper management didn't want to pay the extra money. Turnover is high, and at the time of writing, more and more employees are finding employment elsewhere and giving their resignation notices. Managers give you a lots of false hope and empty promises. There is a lot of micro-managing at every level. Every year the CEO sends out an email to the company a day before a big holiday (like xmas), that everyone in the company goes home early (except the Support Center). There is no overtime, no bonuses and they expect you to be here everyday even under bad weather conditions. On February 2010, we were hit with a major snow blizzard in Maryland that brought nearly 3 feet of snow. The CEO sent an email permitting all employees to go home that friday at 2 pm, just as the snow started coming down and wrote "...so we don’t get you stranded here with 3 feet of snow outside." This only applied to 8-5/M-F employees. The Customer Support Center was required to stay. Even as the weather worsened, the company refused to close the support center. It's almost as though the safety of Customer Support employees and the risk of being stranded was not important to him. Many employees who were there stayed overnight, if not longer. Some dedicated employees packed-up and stayed overnight! They will not get paid overtime. This is a "get-your-experience" and get out type of job. Do not expect to get good pay, nor a positive work environment. If you are unemployed and just need a job, Micros is ALWAYS hiring.

Pros

They will hire just about anyone They often keep do-nothing employees because they have a hard time hiring at their salary levels It is a good feeding group for a real IT company

Cons

The CEO had a meeting in October 2009 with all of the development floor. He said the shareholders like to see negative reviews on here because it shows he is running a tight ship. Well Mr. CEO, congrats here is another negative review. Employees are severely underpaid and very overworked. They always expect people to work weekends. You had better not have a girlfriend or significant other or plans. Almost all the upper management along with the CEO are people who are arrogant and think they know things just because the stock is temporarily going up. It is quite temporary because there is no foundation for the development floor. No processes or documentation all because the CEO thinks it is a waste of money. The employees who are there are either looking for new jobs or waiting for the CEO to retire and hope that the next guy is better. By my calculations, the next generation product has had the following people leave since that 2009 meeting: 70% of QA, 45% of engineers, 100% of tech writers, 100% of product/customer management. Is this any way to release a product? Do the shareholders know this?
