Pros

Strong brands in the marketplace, private labels as well as national brands. They invest in their stores and merchandise standards are high. Macy's is constantly evolving their systems and information technology. Diverse workplace with smart, driven people. Macy's has strong structured training program, opportunity to improve management ability as well as learn the systems and develop technical skills.

Cons

Consolidations will continue and not much job security. Many layers of management and it is difficult to get decisions from management. Very political environment. They seem to value younger attractive workers and do not respect or value people who are not in the Macy's image.

Pros

Good place to start your career. Early recognition of talented individuals and quick to give responsibility which leads to faster promotion opportunities. Still maintains some aspects of a start-up company: mgrs given the latitude to question and challenge workflows and processes. Mgmt genuinely does try to please their direct reports and cares about their people. Vacation and days off are not impossible to use. Overall a very inviting and helpful group of people and atmosphere, with social functions after hours and most people willing to help others accilimate into the culture.

Cons

Lack of reporting systems. No real training program for entry level, requires highly self motivated people. Requires very strong excel skills in order to work through the lack of systems, those without excel skills will be quickly frustrated and spend many hours doing things too manually. Recruiters take too long to fill open positions. No leadership training for fast track employees.
