Pros

The only reason I found as "best reason" to work at Maritz was the flexibility I had in my day to day obligations. I had the ability to work from home more often than not, but did put a lot of time into doing things that were not in my job description essentially. However, that said, when things are good at Maritz many people benefit and I could see that, but that was short-sighted on their part. Additionally, their office space and "perks" were nice as well, such as ability to expense a number of things, having more than enough time for personal endeavors when warranted, etc.

Cons

A major downside was the constant changing of the guards. Just when you got to know or understand a leader they moved them again or let them go altogether. And, they are not necessarily the best in the communications area. They don't provide honest information to employees and management does not communicate to frontline staff. Everything is a smoke and mirrors game, nepotism runs high and if you are not part of the "club" in whatever area that is, you are an outsider and can pretty much know your days will be numbered. Politics run high and only those who say what others want to hear are those who still have a job.

Pros

The business unit has great coworkers. I enjoyed working with all my team members. We all come from various work background. This fact led to many creative thinking and idea generation. You learn a lot as result of working within and around different team members. Additionally, the work place has one of the best work-life balance environments I've experienced. The atmosphere was relaxed yet work still got done. As long as everyone was given a heads up, you could work from home. All teams were aware of their responsibilities and deliverables. Of course, some teams performed better than others. Good chemistry is not a given when assigned to teams despite the presence of good people.

Cons

Most business come from two to three clients, all from the same industry. This means in an economic downturn, there could be a lack of business, as seems to be the case right now. I've always thought that the BU relied to heavily on these customers. If the company tried to develop new business outside the industry, it was poorly communicated to me. Even before the recession, I've always felt that there was a lot of employee turnover. People just seem to have a sense of looking out for themselves professionally given the lack of business stability. This is coupled with the fact that many workers are contract/temporary employees.

Pros

Part time it's a fun job and they do pay every two weeks. Pay rate varies with type of contract, whether you're mystery shopping a drug store, food chain, or gas station. They can and do increase the gas allowance if the job is a further drive than usual. If you tend to do a lot of short shopping trips anyway you can fit these contracts or mystery shops into your normal schedule.

Cons

It's almost impossible to make more than $250.00 a month. Pay rate is generally low and doesn't really allow for the amount of time it takes to submit the photos and the written reports required for payment. There's a lot of driving around involved.
