Pros

Caring for some of the most medically fragile clients with multiple disabilities. Knowing you are a positive influence in their lives and that you are making a difference. Many kind and loving staff members who have dedicated their entire lives to helping these children.

Cons

Low rate of pay, without raises for many many years. Lots of lifting and transferring, limited availability of resources for clients and for staff. Emotional toll of working with such a fragile population which sometimes involves the passing of a child, or learning the background history of the individual that may include child-abuse, exposure to drugs or alcohol in utero, etc. high turnover rates make developing a staff team environment challenging at times.

Pros

The mission is the only thing redeemable about Marklund.

Cons

Horrendous leadership. Extremely toxic environment and if you’re in direct care you’ll be overworked and underpaid. Senior leadership isn’t supportive. The Chief HR Officer works offsite 2 days a week, conveniently every Monday and Friday. Must be nice! Don’t bother going to her, she’s never there and doesn’t know anything. The CEO, Gil, claims to have an “open door policy” but if you go to him with legitimate concerns, while he might listen to what you say, he won’t act on it. He’ll tell you what you want to hear to get you to shut up and then do whatever he/management wants after, no matter the consequences. They will pay extreme feels for agency staff since they have such high turnover, so you’ll never know who’s going to take care of a resident on a given day. The Administrators manage from their desk. No wonder there’s an abuse case at MHC. Google Marklund news before you think of stepping foot in this place. You can make more money flipping burgers, and would be appreciated more elsewhere too. Do yourself a favor and don’t work here!
