Good place to work, for a while

Pros

Healthcare benefits - although if you are relatively healthy, it's better to have a better paying salary to invest.

Cons

HR does nothing for its employees. Have literally never interacted with anyone from HR since I was hired, and you get no support from them. Hard to get a market rate salary and with HR bureaucracy, inabilty to think outside of box, and unfamiliarity with ways to attract talent means people who work hard to try and make a difference end up leaving, and those who are happy with status quo and don't work hard end up staying.

Pros

The people who work in the Family Practice office that I worked in, are really wonderful. They care deeply for the patients they treat.

Cons

The working conditions in the reception department where I worked was horrible. 3 people, including computers and printers and files for patient prescriptions, working in a space 10' X 8'. I was closed into this closet-like space for 8 hours a day; when training 2 new people this spring, there were 5 of us working in the cramped space. Because it was a family practice, we saw sick people every day and the ventilation was broken so the germs were locked in with us. The orientation materials were misleading; the Earned Time Off policy is billed as 5 weeks time off but your ETO is used for holidays, days where the office closed for severe weather, so that you never have any real time off for vacations. And, because of the lack of ventilation, people get sick often. Your accrued sick time cannot be used until all your ETO is used, so there really is no available sick time. When they closed the office for snow days - this year we were closed 2.5 days - there was no possibility of choosing to not be paid. It was mandatory that ETO be used!
