Pros

I joined Maven in 2019 during growth where we doubled in size from 50 to 100 employees, and built out the executive team. The leadership team is top notch - experts in each of their fields, thoughtful, humble, extremely proactive and results driven. We recently added job levels and a 2x/year review process offering clarity on role expectations and transparency into how you develop and grow at the company. Maven's mission resonates with each person who joins the team - we have a huge business opportunity AND we also get to help and support women and families during a pivotal moment in their lives and careers - win.win. Excited to be on the rocket ship of growth with this group.

Cons

Maven is outgrowing its office - booking rooms for meetings and calls is becoming trickier by the day. We have some folks who are remote, but may need to have some WFH days to drive productivity until we have a space that can catch up with our growth. Hoping we can add a 401k match in the future!

Pros

Really hot space and industry that has a lot of potential and interest from employers; fun culture with many that have a great sense of humor; great mission; smart people; new leadership that is helping to create processes and a more scalable company; people really care about the service and their emotional commitment shows; opportunity to take on different roles and projects; no pigeonholing of employees into silos; very transparent messaging from management to employees; great new HR processes which will assist in objective reviews and growth potential for employees; flexible with remote emoployees; no expectation of facetime.

Cons

Growing pains; some rapid changes that can be hard for people; intense senior leadership team with lofty goals; lack of bonus structure; many moving parts; complex structure to our product which can create difficult conversations with and explanations to clients; some lack of operational fluidity around some of the products; broad range of talent in sales - some are much better than others.

Pros

I've been at Maven before it was a thing, it's been amazing to see our growth in just a few years. I walk around now and barely know everyone. That's a pro and a con, I suppose. Love that the little family who built this company succeeded and that we're all still here!

Cons

As someone who has been here for a long time, I am guilty of this but I'm really trying to recognize this and improve: everyone here is really nice. Of course on its face, that's not a bad thing. But nice here can sometimes show up as being conflict-averse, or reluctant to give feedback in fear of making people feel uncomfortable, or not wanting to disagree. We're a lot of women and we are naturally collegial. :) We've hired a lot of new leaders in the past 12 months and they are pushing on this. At first, it did not feel good to be this direct, but out of conflict (sometimes), we've had really good conversations that we probably should have been having a while ago. I realize this is a skill to learn, and the company is better off for it. It's actually worse if we're all smiling and confused than if someone just raises their hand and says "I don't understand" or "I don't agree." Again, I have been just a guilty of doing this but I want to work on this and think we all should. Being direct with each other feels better.
