Mayo Clinic reviews

Mayo is run by MDs so basically to get hired as a PhD "professor" (just a title no one really teaches anything) you have to fit in rather than be a robust scientist. As a result this place is littered with sub par PIs who have no clue how to manage their post docs / conduct quality research / or hold best interests for post docs. Why? Well because there is no tenure here so a post doc becomes a sponge that needs to be squeezed of all resources so that the PI can show progress to their supervisors. In academia a tenured professor doesn't have such pressures and as a result quality stands out whereas at Mayo they are under pressure to get grants and produce (regardless of quality) so post docs are sent on fishing expeditions to get some data on some preliminary study so that a grant can be written. Plus there's no academic environment such as seminars or sharing of ideas. It's a very desolate environment if you're a PhD. People talk about benefits a lot here but honestly as a post doc I can't even afford those benefits so it's terrible for that too. Overall if you're a PhD stick with academia. This is no place to advance your career.

They don't really care about their employees unless you're a doctor. Don't get hurt there or they'll fire you, especially if the injury is a result of their negligence. Managers are not trained, therefore they don't know what they're doing and treat underlings badly. They make many mistakes and cover them all up. They double up the workload when people retire and don't hire any new people. My manager gavel essential work to her favorites and she spent much of her time doing shopping online instead of training people and doing her job.There is a lot of turnover here. Don't work here !!
