Pros

time off for taking children to medical appointments; free coffee; no economic layoffs, at least so far; summer picnic is nice, especially for kids; telecommuting from home opportunities; fitness rooms in all locations

Cons

all the cons listed by other posters are absolutely true; nobody else uses the programming languages that Meditech does, so one is limited in building their skill-set; difficult to obtain skills to work at another company (exception is use of SQL); slow to use industry-accepted software development practices and tools; politically-correct environment, saying anything that can be perceived as critical of the company or the mangement, directors or founders will not make one any friends there; lack of any consistent documentation including software development documentation is completely lacking; the requirements for our software were based on what people thought, think of what can happen if those people left the company; open office environment, you see and hear what everyone is doing at all times; office environment tends can be chatty and gossipy; lots of management layers; low pay; old-style management, for example, doing your work while eating lunch is encouraged; management is assigned by tenure, questionable how these people would have done in another company or if people from other companies were considered for non-entry level positions; one is treated like an eighteen year-old from day one; programs are buggy and difficult to debug; very little room to be promoted; the people in my former group have been there for 10-20 years and have been doing the same thing no 401k plan offered; your supervisor can make or break you, if you don't click with them, then look for other opportunities ASAP no HR department, company wants to save money by not mailing W2s; buildings are located off major highways, but not near any public transit; health insurance is covered 90% of the premium, but you cannot get any compensation if you do not take their plan.

Pros

A lot of really great people, nobody seems to be in thick competition with one another. Some fun benefits, like the annual golf tournament, company picnic (huge event, akin to a town fair with loads of quality free food and drinks) and good intramural sports situation. Great work life balance.

Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough indians. At some point the company seems to have left its original roots and gone created an excess in middle management positions -- filling them with sometimes ineffective managers. The work environment in some buildings is Office Spacey (the newest building in Foxbourough has a very 'start-up' to it however).

Pros

Work is relatively easy and, work life balance and benefits are great. Work from home available after one year, ability to buy company stock which pays a good dividend, high annual bonus

Cons

LOW pay for entry level employees, pay not increased when transferring to a higher paid position, no attempt to increase pay for current employees when starting salaries rise.
