Pros

The benefits, such as health insurance and vacation/sick time, are unparalleled. Management is very receptive to employee feedback and the group setting is very personal and friendly. There is ample training provided. The food is awesome!

Cons

Starting salary is low compared to other companies in a similar industry (but this is outweighed by the generous benefits). The company is dead-set in their ways and are somewhat reluctant to change.

Pros

Meditech has a great work environment and the people you will work with are generally fun (this doesn't necessarily mean they are good employees, but they are fun). It is basically impossible to get fired (also a con since you will be working with people that would have been fired from other jobs) and the work/life balance is great. They are generous with sick and vacation days and as long as you are not grossly incompetent you will be able to work flex hours and work from home two days a week. The bonuses are generous and the retirement plan is pretty good.

Cons

If you stay here more than a couple years as a developer, you will be obsolete to the rest of the industry. Meditech develops all (and I do mean all...word processor, email client, file system, spreadsheet, etc) their software in house using the Meditech programming language. In an industry full of incredible 3rd party tools and IDEs, you will have access to none of them as a developer at Meditech. Forget everything you learned in college (SQL/Java/.NET) because it is not applicable at Meditech. In addition to being forced to use under-powered, obsolete, technology, pay is a joke. Your base pay at Meditech is going to be extremely low for the industry. The generous bonuses and time off help, but you are still going to be making about 50-75% of your peers that work with mainstream technologies. To some people this might be fine because you will not have to do that much work and you will be working in a zero-stress environment. To those looking for a position outside of development at Meditech, the pros greatly outweigh the cons. It is a great place to break into the healthcare industry and a great place to work. For those in a technical field, look elsewhere for employment before it is too late.
