Good if You're Entry Level

Pros

This is a good company if you are just starting out. They hire entry level positions and promote from within. Excellent benefits: they cover 90% of health and dental. Free coffee, tea, sodas and subsidized lunches. No fear of being laid off however there are some cons to that. Depending on what division you are in and your management, the schedules are very flexible. Employees are eligible to work from home 1-2 days a week depending on performance after 2 years. Depending on your work ethic, you will learn a lot about EHR's.

Cons

Since they never lay off or hardly let people go, there are many employees who just skate along doing minimal work without many consequences. There is not much room for growth so people who go above and beyond don't see many more benefits than the people who just show up everyday. You'll probably end up working nights and weekends at some point. The salaries are low compared to the industry standard. There is no HR department so if you have issues with your management, there's pretty much no mediation or resolution. They boast flexibility to people interviewing, but promotions and transfers are few and far between. The coding language is extremely outdated and the bulk of the products are product based. They need to focus more on web and mobile solutions to remain a competitor in the market. They don't value furthering education. Graduate degrees don't mean anything to them and they don't utilize people with appropriate skills. I doubt anyone in management has an actual degree in it.

Pros

Job security, great development projects to work on, good, supportive management team within my group. A lot of flexibility with my work hours, helps balance work and family. Medical and dental benefits very generous.

Cons

No or low raises after 5+ years with the explanation that I started at a higher salary because I was hired into development. Yearly performance review and raise have nothing to do with each other. Glowing reviews, all goals met or surpassed, with no raise or the minimum raise. They say there is no cap on salary, but there clearly there is.

Pros

Meditech is as financially stable as they come. Even in flat years, there are no cash flow issues, so annual bonuses and profit sharing aren't greatly affected. The day-to-day work is challenging but rewarding, and my co-workers are all a pleasure to work with (seriously; there's not a "bad" person in my department). As an electronic health record company, their medical insurance is, as can be expected, top notch, with 90% coverage for me and my entire family. It's benefits like these that help make staying pretty enticing. Some departments have fully embraced Agile methodology, which is refreshing.

Cons

The base salary is lower than industry average, and while annual raises are consistent, there is less emphasis on personal performance and more on overall company performance which drives the size of the average raise. This is slowing changing, which is good, but needs to be completely re-vamped in my opinion. Additionally, while I have learned a lot in my position, the only place for me to advance is into a Lead role. Otherwise, the only promotion available is into a supervisory position.
