Pros

Fellow employees, the kids and their families

Cons

Disrespectful, condescending treatment by upper management; lack of understanding or appreciation for work/home balance. Upper management can come and go as they please for their families but god forbid you try it. They say they don't tolerate gossip yet the super higher ups eat sleep and breath gossip and even have spies in place. Watch your back!!!

Pros

Experience is experience There are very caring staff members I have appreciated my co-workers

Cons

Melmark is a company with made up unrealistic protocols and procedures that do not align with the universal nursing principles and state regulated guidelines. Melmark has not had a Director of Nursing for the past year and do not support nor value their current and past extremely hard-working Nursing professionals. Rules and guidelines are manipulated per individual and there is no solid core foundation. The turn over rate for nursing has been consistently elevated for years with no authentic investigation completed to determine why. Nurses are routinely degraded and made to feel inferior, expendable, and unreliable. Do extensive research before applying to this facility because money can not save your nursing license, dignity, or soul. ***The intent of this review is to inform and provide insight to a company that boasts of consistent great reviews. Pros

If you're lucky, you can form a really powerful connection with a student. Great high paying job right out of college. Offer tuition reimbursement if you're willing to sell your soul for 2 additional years.

Cons

Not sure where to start. Administration plays favorites. If you're not in their circle, you're not going to go anywhere. Management will lie to parents to cover themselves. I was a witness to an incident where a nonverbal student was left in a hot tub for 2 hours. When she fainted, the lead laughed and said she fell asleep. The lead proceeded to tell ER doctors that the student was only in the hot tub for 15 minutes. This place is not safe for students or staff alike. Administration makes it very clear that they do not care about their employees and that everyone is replaceable. In the residence, the scheduler will move you to houses where you do not know the students and the students do not know therefore feel comfortable with you with a few hours notice. Residential staff expected to cover school staff for government holidays, but this is never reciprocated.
