Crushing disappointment.

Pros

I got to work with wonderful people and there is truly nowhere like Meow Wolf. I was compensated well.

Cons

A toxic atmosphere which comes from the top down. It will grind you down unless you are one of the few who truly gets to express themselves, which is of course the promise of the company. Very few truly do, and for the most part those who find themselves in that position do nothing to help those below. You will be met with either indecision or a "who can shout the loudest" atmosphere when it comes to meetings rather than the "radical inclusivity" the company claims to have. Lay-offs can happen and when they do you will not be treated fairly or well and with no concern. Constant pressure to perform without setting clear goals as to what the performance should be, again, you will not be listened to if you have suggestions on what that may be. Ultimately, you are a worker, not a respected creative at any level, if you can settle that with yourself you may be fine. However, if you can't you will be ground down and you slowly become someone you don't like.

Pros

Surrounded by wonderfully creative people everyday, snacks at the office, local benefits, employer-paid health insurance, flexible working hours.

Cons

Being run by people who have no business running a company this large. We keep hiring people who have experience in fields the company needs help in, only to ignore their advice if it's something the founders don't want to hear. Work, then re-do the work because something foreseeable changes, then re-do the re-do when a founder changes their mind about something and wants it different. Understand that the future markets we're building in won't treat the project like Santa Fe did. "That's what we did when we built the House.." means NOTHING anymore.

Pros

Some of the most brilliant, creative people I've ever worked with. Most of the folks here care deeply about what they do and about making the world a better place through creativity. It's not easy, but there is so much to be learned here and there are some truly magical people making it happen. I truly believe that everyone here is trying their best, which is not something I can say about a lot of places I've worked.

Cons

They blew up too fast and are feeling the growing pains really hard. Bit off more than they could chew with the new exhibits, upper level management not seeming to know how much time and money it takes to do what they've asked, etc. etc. I took a $25k+ pay cut to move here to pursue a passion. I don't regret that decision, but it was incredibly difficult and definitely isn't for everyone.
