Pros

The work itself is interesting. The subject matter is stimulating. Good variety of retainer-client work and one-off projects.

Cons

Don't give us the peace sign and a smile and then turn around and decrease our bonuses by 40%. Enough with the faux-morale boosting events (bagels, pizza, casual dress days). If you want to build a stronger work environment, you'll reward high performers and you'll ship out poor performers. Stop subsidizing and encouraging mediocrity while penalizing those who work hard. We're tired of this.

Mercer colleague, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are disappointed you feel like you are not having a positive work experience at Mercer. Regarding our goals and compensation, we always have room to improve, but we do place a great deal of value sharing our successes across our businesses. There are many factors that sit between the goals we set for our overall business and the goals that are set at an individual level – but one common theme prevails which is to reward our talent fairly and transparently. I encourage you to connect with your direct manager to gain a better understanding of our rewards processes if they are unclear. You can also send an email to ColleagueFeedback@Mercer.com to share further context on your questions and concerns.

Pros

Benefits are decent, but going downhill. They are slowly taking them away. No more pensions, etc. Many people are able to work from home.

Cons

Layoffs like clockwork every year--outsourcing everything to India. They are getting rid of lifelong employees and replacing them with contractors; there is no employee loyalty.

Some good people, but some real turds.

Pros

The pay is OK, but negotiate your starting pay well, because you're likely stuck there. Good benefits and vacation if you're starting in the right place/level. Ability to work at home is great - limits commute, etc.

Cons

Managers abuse trust and loyalty and won't hesitate to backstab you if it advances their career, or saves their own skin. There will be no training, no information; just deadlines, panic and stress. The work moves fast and objectives are slippery - the goal posts are in constant motion. "Great year!" is what you'll hear 11 and a half months of the year, until review time, when the hammer drops and you move from a 5 to a 2 and no compensation increase. Your boss is going to get a fat bonus but say there's none for you (pay attention when you go interview - don't believe the bonus BS in the interview process; believe the luxury cars in management row and rust buckets in the rest of the lot).
